90 ■ THE WOLFPACKER BASKETBALL PREVIEW 2016-17 Myisha Goodwin-Coleman late in her fresh- man season of 2013-14, Spencer has been NC State's "Miss Fix-It," willing to take on any role she's asked to fill. In that regard, she's emulating her biggest role model on the court, a certain No. 23 residing in Cleveland. "LeBron James is the best basketball player on the planet," Spencer proclaimed four years ago, after admitting she's had posters of "The Chosen One" ever since she was 8 years old. When talking about her varying roles these past three years, from bench reserve, to starting No. 2 guard, to fill-in point guard last year, she comes back to her idol. "LeBron is such a great all-around player — that's how I really want to evolve my game," she explained. "To not be just a scorer, but somebody who can get someone the ball when they need it, or taking some- body off the dribble and dishing it. "I really like doing that, actually, so it doesn't really bother me playing the one [point guard]. I think playing it last year made me more comfortable, even though I didn't shoot as much as in previous years." That versatility is one reason Moore feels Spencer is a natural as a team leader, along with the example she continues to set. "Every day, day in and day out, she pushes herself to get better, which then causes ev- eryone else to raise their game a level," he said. "I know it's a cliché, but I think Miah is a prime example of how hard work can be rewarded, because she's made herself a great player in a great conference. "We're going to definitely lean heavily on her this year. It's a luxury knowing she is versatile enough to play the one or two and do a great job either place — it definitely makes it easier for a coach trying to shuffle a lineup and get the best players on the court. Wherever you pencil her in, you know she's going to do a great job." Already among the top 25 in program history in scoring (1,174 career points) and assists (344), Spencer could crack the top 10 in both with an average season at around 400 points and 100 assists. While most players have All-ACC selection as a personal goal, Spencer, in typical fashion, downplays its importance. "I don't really think about stuff like that," she explained. "Yeah, last year I got second team, and if I can boost that up to first team I'll be excited, but I feel like that's all just pol- itics anyway, so I don't really worry about it. "None of that stuff matters to me but win- ning the ACC and going to the [NCAA] Tournament. There are some great teams — Notre Dame, Louisville, Syracuse — but I feel like we're being overlooked.
