R Y A N   S N Y D E R | B L U E W H I T E I L L U S T R A T E D Penn State has won four in a row, includ- ing a victory over second-ranked Ohio State, and the coaching staff has been working to parlay the program's on-field upturn into recruiting successes. The Nit- tany Lions' game against Iowa this Satur- day will offer them another opportunity to do just that. The coaching staff is expected to once again host a handful of its top prospects, although the crowd is unlikely to be as big as the one that was on hand for the Ohio State game two weeks ago. It's still too early to put a complete list together, but we know that five-star defensive back Lamont Wade of Clairton, Pa., will be on campus for his official visit. Future Penn State offensive lineman Michael Miranda of Stow, Ohio, is also expected to use his official visit this weekend. Mi- randa will enroll in January, so he de- cided to use his official visit now instead of in December. Meanwhile, Penn State has been getting positive feedback from the players who were on hand for the game against the Buckeyes. One of those players was defen- sive back D.J. Brown, a verbally commit- ted member of the Lions' upcoming recruiting class. Brown went out of his way to attend the game. A native of Fairburn, Ga., he could have used his official visit, which would have been understandable considering that he lives almost 800 miles from State College. Instead, he and his family decided to pay for the trip themselves so that D.J. could return to Penn State when most of his future teammates are set to visit in January. "That was my first visit since the sum- mer when I was up there for the Lasch Bash, but it was actually my first game at Penn State," said Brown, who attended the Blue-White Game but had never seen a regular-season game at Beaver Sta- dium. "My schedule was crazy. We had a game Friday night and it was pretty far away, so I didn't get home until about 1 a.m. I had to be up then at 4 a.m. to catch my flight two hours later, so it was a crazy start to the day. We also had to drive up to State College from Baltimore, but it was worth it. I wanted to be able to return later in the year with all the [committed re- cruits]." Because the game didn't start until 8 p.m., Brown and his family had time to take a campus tour and meet with the coaching staff. He also spent a few hours with the rest of Penn State's Class of 2017. "When I got up there, Coach [Terry] Smith was able to take me around the campus a little bit. We were able to see some things that I hadn't seen yet. That was good," he said. "Once we got back to the facility then, I spent most of my time with the commits. We had a real good time. That was one of my favorite things, chilling with the guys." While Brown has consistently said that his commitment to the Nittany Lions is firm, there have been a few programs that haven't let up, most notably California, Colorado and Mississippi State. Earlier this fall, Brown admitted that he was con- sidering official visits to those schools aBer the season. "I'm really not focused on that much right now," Brown said, when asked about the chances of him visiting other schools. "I do have some schools after me, but Penn State is where it's at. I'm not thinking about any official visits [to other schools] right now. I'm focused on my team and finishing my season strong. I just care about my team right now."
