24 NOV. 21, 2016 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED "They just lined up and blocked us, and they're hard to tackle. They are very talented." Adams finished with 70 yards on 15 carries. Senior running back Tar- ean Folston led the team in rushing with 84 yards on 13 carries. Kizer also extended plays and finished with 72 yards on seven carries. Army sophomore quarterback Chris Carter — playing in place of injured junior starter Ahmad Brad- shaw — did not complete any of his five pass attempts. The Black Knights also used freshman Malik McGue at quarterback, and he fin- ished 2-of-3 passing for 13 yards with an interception. Army's rushing attack never gained traction against the Irish. The Black Knights finished with 229 yards, 91 below their season average (320.3) coming into the game. Sophomore fullback Darnell Wool- fork was Army's leading rusher, fin- ishing with 95 yards on 11 carries, while sophomore A-back Jordan As- berry carried three times for 54 yards. Army's lone scoring play was a two- yard run by freshman A-back Kell Walker with 14:14 left in the second quarter. The extra point by senior Mitchell Howard was no good. Senior linebacker James Onwualu led the Irish with 13 tackles (1.5 for loss) and one sack. Junior linebacker Greer Martini added nine tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. Now, Notre Dame must transition back to defending the traditional of- fenses of Virginia Tech and USC to finish the regular season. "These two weeks [against the tri- ple options of Navy and Army] are more physical than the whole sea- son," senior cornerback Cole Luke said. "We're just in the box a lot more. "Trying to adjust to Virginia Tech and USC is just going to take a lot of repetition and technique work." Kelly said there was a short-term benefit to playing the triple option in back-to-back weeks rather than spread apart. "It's getting ready for Virginia Tech now, having had two weeks not playing against traditional of- fenses," Kelly said. "We've got a lot of work to do. We've got to get to work on Tuesday, and it's got to be a schedule that allows our guys to get a lot of work at cover four and cover six and cover two and what we do normally." ✦ Senior running back Tarean Folston led Notre Dame in rushing with 84 yards on 13 carries, and the Irish finished with a season-high 261 yards on the ground.
