first time since 1998, Notre Dame does not have anyone with previous start- ing experience at cornerback (even then, 1997 starting free safety Deveron Harper was shifted to corner). Two, there were five cornerbacks on
scholarship this spring. None was a senior, and one of them was Cam Mc- Daniel, who last year was a freshman running back. A year ago at this time, the Irish
coaching staff was confident that it had addressed the needs at corner by re- ceiving early verbal commitments from
Junior Bennett Jackson was a wide receiver when he arrived in South Bend, but made the move to cornerback before last season after being named the squad's Special Teams Player of the Year in 2010 for his aggressive play.
