P
enn State .nds itself in an excellent
position with only a little more than
a month remaining in this year's re-
cruiting cycle.
As of mid-December, the Nittany
Lions' Class of 2017 was ranked No. 14
overall by Rivals.com. With nine four-
star prospects and 17 players total, the
class is also nearly complete, as we expect
James Franklin and his sta/ to sign
roughly 18 to 20 prospects.
In the week leading up to Christmas, it
appeared as though the coaching staff
was primarily focused on a pair of five-
star players: defensive back Lamont
Wade and defensive end Josh Kaindoh.
Wade was expected to reveal his deci-
sion Dec. 17, while Kaindoh appears set
to make an announcement on Jan. 1 dur-
ing the Under Armour All-America
Game.
When the dead period ends on Jan. 11,
the coaches are expected to re-evaluate
the situation and then target their top
remaining prospects. They also need to
see whether any current players plan to
leave the team. If there are some depar-
tures, that would open up additional
scholarships. Penn State isn't likely to
have 20 scholarships available in this
class unless one or two players exit.
With that in mind, here's a closer look
at the Nittany Lions' top remaining
prospects and where we believe they
stand as signing day approaches:
