The NHL GREG PATERYN OUT EIGHT WEEKS WITH A FRACTURED ANKLE A day after he broke his ankle, Montreal defenseman Greg Pateryn was back at the Canadiens' practice facility trying to skate through it. He eventually resigned himself to the fact that he couldn't and was placed on injured reserve Dec. 7. He is expected to be out eight weeks. Pateryn broke his ankle blocking a shot from Alexander Steen in a Dec. 6 game with St. Louis. He'd earned the respect of his teammates as a do- anything defenseman, with his injury as the latest example. The NBA CARIS LEVERT MAKES HIS LONG AWAITED NBA DEBUT Fully recovered from a foot injury that cost him almost all of his junior and senior seasons at Michigan, Ca- ris LeVert was cleared to play Dec. 5 for the Brooklyn Nets, the team that drafted him 20th overall. He didn't play, instead making his debut Dec. 7. LeVert played nine minutes and became the franchise's first player to record three or more steals in an NBA debut since Chris Childs in 1994. He also pulled down four rebounds in a 116-111 win over Denver. "Go out there and play hard, that's what coaches told me," LeVert said in the postgame. "Don't worry about making mistakes. Just go out there Glenn Robinson III • NBA Robinson notched games of 20, 17 and 15 points playing for the injured Paul George between Nov. 25 and Nov. 30, the best three- game stretch of his career. Nik Stauskas • NBA The third-year pro scored 14 points on 3-of-5 three-point shoot- ing in a 99-88 win at New Orleans Dec. 8. He had elevated his three-point percentage to 38.5 percent as of Dec. 14. Patrick Omameh • NFL The former Wolverine lineman broke his foot in a Nov. 20 game with Detroit and will be lost for the remainder of the season.
