FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP Recruiting Notes • Notre Dame is down to just one wide receiver pledge in the class of 2017 after the December decommitment of Winter Park (Fla.) High three- star Jordan Pouncey. Amidst the departure of wide receivers coach Mike Denbrock, Pouncey backed off his pledge to the Irish after being offered by Miami and Texas. Pouncey included Notre Dame in a final four list along with Miami, Texas and Tennessee. He will visit those three schools in January. The lone wide receiver commit remaining in the class is Destrehan (La.) High three-star Michael Young. • A source close to the recruitment of Midwest City (Okla.) High safety Evan Fields has indicated to Blue & Gold Illustrated that Notre Dame is trending upward to land the three-star. Fields was offered by Notre Dame Dec. 8 and included the Irish on a list of his final six schools along with Oregon, Arizona State, Kansas State, UCLA and Baylor. The Oklahoma talent will announce his commitment Jan. 30, 10 days after his official visit to South Bend Jan. 20.
