Hackenberg is originally from Pottsville, Pa., and his father, Erick, was a Big 33 quarterback who went on to play his college ball at Virginia. Brown and Terry are the top-rated quarterbacks in their respective states. The Nittany Lions are also showing their Jun- ior Day attendees that, even with the hiring of Urban Meyer as Ohio State's head coach, Penn State doesn't plan on overlooking the Buckeye State during the recruiting process. Three Ohio prospects will be in attendance: running back De'Veon Smith and athlete Bren- don Cope of Howland High School in Warren and athlete Reon Dawson from Trotwood-Madi- son High School in Trotwood. The big name here is Smith. He is rated by several recruiting services as either the No. 1 or No. 2 running back prospect in Ohio. There is certainly room for optimism concern- ing Penn State's recruiting. Penn State fans are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel following the Jerry Sandusky scandal. But this is only the first step. The players are just beginning to arrive in Happy Valley. Now, O'Brien needs to begin the second step: landing verbal commitments from the blue- chip players in the Class of 2013.
