Lady Lions fall in second round of Big Ten tourney T here was no stopping Teniya Page at the Big Ten tournament. Minnesota tried a variety of defensive approaches, including a box-and-one, but Penn State's star sophomore guard still scored 35 points, hitting 11 of 22 from the floor and 9 of 10 from the line. "She's a phenomenal player and had a great game for them," Minnesota coach Marlene Stollings said afterward. "But what we did very well was to not let an- other player go off on us. It's hard to get beat by one player, and I thought we did a good job containing the rest of their team." They did indeed. Sierra Moore was the only other player in doubles with 13 points, and the Lady Lions dropped the second-round game, 70-64, March 2 in Indianapolis. While Page and Moore kept Penn State in contention, the ab- sence of any other scoring options proved costly. Subtract their two leading scorers, and the Lady Lions went 7 of 38 from the floor. "I thought Sierra got some big offen- sive rebounds and made some big plays for us in the fourth quarter," Penn State coach Coquese Washington said. "And Teniya was fantastic all night. So those two certainly came with a lot of energy, a lot of effort and made a lot of big plays for us." Page became only the fourth player in Penn State women's basketball history to eclipse 1,000 career points by the end of her sophomore year, as she now has 1,033. But her great individual effort, coming on the heels of her selection as a first-team All-Big Ten choice, wasn't enough to stave off a disappointing loss. The Lady Lions were 19-10 overall after falling to the Gophers. They were set to learn their NCAA tournament fate on March 13 when the field was scheduled to be announced. –MATT HERB W O M E N ' S B A S K E T B A L L 107 Mountain Springs Lane • (814) 364-1000 • www.sevenmountainswinecellars.com Only 20 minutes from State College • 1 Mile off 322 near Potters Mills/ Decker Valley Road Find Seven Mountains Wine at Main Street Market, Reedsville and Castlerigg Wine Shop, Downtown Carlisle.
