He then went out and made his case. "I don't think I'm going to play another position in the league," he said. "But I like being versatile. I just like being able to play." "When they talk about my size and things like that, I do kind of get a lit- tle feisty," he said. "But that's who I am. I love competing, I love to prove people wrong, and that's part of why I'm such a competitor and why I love the game so much." "When I bring up the pass protec- tion, they say, 'Yeah, that's definitely one of your strong points,'" Smith acknowledged. "I do try to make it known that I feel I'm the best pass protector in this class. Coaches like that confidence. They feel it's a good asset." "I think I'm doing well," he said. "A lot of teams are saying I'm a little advanced for where a lot of guys are, just knowing plays and things like that, knowing sets. You know that from playing at Michigan." STRIBLING BY THE NUMBERS Ht./Wt.: 6-1, 188 pounds Arm Length: 31½ inches Hand Size: 8½ inches 40: 4.6 seconds — 30th among 32 DBs Bench: 5 reps — 27th among 27 DBs Vertical Jump: 31.5 inches — 28th among 31 DBs Broad Jump: 114 inches — 31st among 31 DBs Three-Cone Drill: 6.94 seconds — Tied for 13th among 20 DBs 20-Yard Shuttle: 4.56 seconds — 18th among 18 DBs DEFENSIVE END CHRIS WORMLEY Like some others, Wormley will save his testing for Michigan's pro day, since he only participated in the bench press at the NFL Combine because of a hamstring injury. He talked to all 32 NFL teams and has a good sense of what they're thinking. "I've heard a lot of things," he said. "The 4-3 defenses consider me as an end or a three-tech tackle, and 3-4 de- fensive see me as a left end. There's a lot of versatility within myself, and that's what teams see as well." WORMLEY BY THE NUMBERS Ht./Wt.: 6-5, 298 pounds Arm Length: 34 1/8 inches Hand Size: 10½ inches Bench: 23 reps — Tied for 24th among 49 DL Was not able to do most testing due to hamstring injury. ❏ Linebacker Ben Gedeon (No. 42) and cornerback Jourdan Lewis (No. 26) both took part in the NFL Combine, Feb. 28-March 6 in Indianapolis.
