■ FOOTBALL RECRUITING No. 8 offensive guard in the 2012 class. The 6-2, 315-pounder has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Maryland, Nebraska, NC State, North Carolina, South Carolina and Ten- nessee, among others. He admitted that NC State has his attention. "They have a great program," Crowder told Rivals.com. "The coaches up there are great. They know what they're talking about." ■ Defensive Line Crowder and Nichols are not the only pros- pects at Richmond County that NC State has offered. Defensive end Devante Covington (6-4, 220 pounds) picked up an offer during the spring and made the trip with Nichols for the spring game. NC State was Covington's fourth offer, joining a list that had included East Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Since then, Clemson and Wake Forest have tendered. "I think it's all the same right now," Cov- ington said. "I was waiting on August to make a decision, but it may be a little bit longer." Covington, who is rated as a three-star re- cruit by Rivals.com, had 34 tackles and eight sacks as a junior. NC State hosted defensive end Devin Washington from Jones High in Orlando, Fla., for an unofficial visit during the spring. The 6-3, 225-pounder is listed as a three-star prospect and the No. 12 weakside defensive end in the 2013 class by Rivals.com. Washington registered 55 tackles, includ- ing 11 for loss and seven sacks, as a junior. He is claiming more than 25 offers. Former NC State receiver Jarvis Williams is a Jones High alum.
