MAY 2017 THE WOLVERINE 59   OLYMPIC SPORTS UPDATE NCAA Semifinal session II April 14 in St. Louis … As a team, Michigan placed fifth out of six teams with a team score of 196.4265 … Two falls in the second rotation were too much for the Wolver- ines to overcome, and they failed to fin- ish among the top three teams which advanced to the NCAA Finals. MEN'S LACROSSE (8-4 OVERALL, 0-3 BIG TEN) Michigan defeated UMBC 10-7 March 25 before losing its next three games against conference teams that were ranked among the nation's top 15 at the time of the game … The Wolverines fell 15-8 at then-No. 9 Maryland April 1, 14-7 versus then-No. 13 Rutgers April 8 and 18-7 against then-No. 9 Ohio State April 15 … Senior Ian King tallied three goals and three assists against Rutgers, setting a school record for goals in a career (89) in the process … King had 23 goals and 19 assists through 12 games this season … Michigan will take on Johns Hopkins April 22 and Penn State April 30 in its final two regular-season contests. WOMEN'S LACROSSE (5-11 OVERALL, 1-4 BIG TEN) After pulling out a 10-9 win against Winthrop March 26, Michigan dropped three of its first four contests in April … U-M suffered a 20-7 defeat at then-No. 1 Maryland April 1 … The Wolverines knocked off Niagara 20-10 April 4, but lost 15-8 at Johns Hopkins April 8 and 16- 14 versus Rutgers April 13 …Senior Kim Coughlan set a school record for goals in a game with eight against Rutgers, her eight markers stood as the most by any Big Ten player this season … Coughlan became the first player in school history to reach 100 goals earlier this season … U-M will close out its regular season April 30 against Penn State. ROWING Michigan was ranked No. 3 in the April 11 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Associa- tion/US Rowing coaches' poll … Michi- gan's first varsity eight was named Big Ten Boat of the Week April 11 … The Wolverines came in first in races against Harvard and then-No. 9 Yale March 25 before posting a first-place finish and two second-place finishes at the Pac- 12 Challenge … Michigan then hosted the Big Ten Double Dual in Laingsburg, Mich., April 8 and finished first in races against Minnesota and then-No. 11 Wis- consin … The Wolverines have finished first in every scored event in the state of Michigan so far this season … Michigan took on No. 4 Ohio State, No. 20 Duke and Notre Dame in Columbus April 14, finishing second in a time of 6:24.8 … Michigan will host Louisville at Bellville Lake April 29 in the final event of the regular season … The Big Ten Champi- onships will be May 13-14 in Indianapo- lis, Ind. SOFTBALL (31-9-1 OVERALL, 11-2 BIG TEN) The Wolverines were ranked No. 18 in the April 11 USA Today/National Fast- pitch Coaches Association poll … Senior pitcher Megan Betsa was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week March 20, March 27 and April 3 … Over that three-week stretch, Betsa compiled seven shutout wins … Michigan swept a three-game series with Northwestern March 31-April 2, and also took two of three games in conference series with Ohio State April 8-9 and Maryland April 14-16 … Michi- gan hosts Michigan State April 18, before going on the road for a three-game series at Wisconsin April 21-23 … The Wolver- ines close out the month at home with three games against Indiana April 28-30 and finish the regular season at Rutgers May 5-7. MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING (5-1 OVERALL, 3-1 BIG TEN) Michigan was ranked No. 11 in the final College Swimming Coaches Association of America poll Feb. 23 … Freshman Felix Auböck was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Year following the season … The Wolverines finished 17th with 82 points at the NCAA Championships March 22-25 in Indianapolis … Auböck placed second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 14:22.88 to earn All-America honors; he also earned All-America accolades in the 500-yard freestyle … Junior PJ Rans- ford took sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle event while also earning All-America rec- ognition … Junior Paul Powers earned The women's gymnastics team won its fourth straight Big Ten championship after claiming the regular-season title and then went on to win the program's 12th NCAA Regional crown.
