www.BLUEANDGOLD.com JUNE/JULY 2017 49 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP RECRUITING NOTES • Notre Dame lost a highly rated member of its 2018 class May 6. Rivals100 cornerback Kalon Gervin, who committed to the Irish following Junior Day Feb. 11, announced via Twitter that he was back- ing off his pledge to Notre Dame. Prior to the announcement, Gervin visited Tennes- see and Virginia Tech before making his way to South Bend for the Blue-Gold Game April 22. In the days before the announcement, rumors circulated that Gervin was close to flipping to Oregon, which Gervin himself dismissed as false. The Irish are now without a cornerback commit in the class of 2018 after not signing one in the 2017 class. • Four class of 2019 quarterbacks have now landed Notre Dame offers. Prior to the month of May, five- star Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei product J.T. Daniels was the only QB in the class to have an Irish tender, but the coaching staff has begun to evaluate and offer new prospects. Four-stars Bo Nix of Pinson (Ala.) Pinson Valley, Spencer Rattler of Phoenix Pinnacle and Grant Gunnell of Houston St. Pius X all landed Irish offers in the first two weeks of May. • Notre Dame hosted four-star Coconut Creek (Fla.) North Broward Prep wide receiver Kevin Austin for the Blue-Gold Game April 22, and left quite the im- pression on the Florida talent. Austin, the No. 24 wide receiver and No. 129 overall player in the nation according to Rivals, released a top four April 30 that included Notre Dame, Duke, Tennessee and Miami. Austin has a strong relationship with running backs coach Autry Denson and was impressed by his meet- ing with receivers coach DelVaughn Alexander during his visit. A decision date has not been set, but it will likely come before Austin's senior season. • Notre Dame will host the fifth annual Irish Inva- sion June 9-10. The camp, which was first held in 2013, has become a cornerstone of Irish recruit- ing. More than 80 prospects attended last year's event, including headliners five-star linebacker Baron Browning and five-star offensive tackle Foster Sarell. — David McKinney D'Shawn Jamison, 5-10, 174 Houston (Lamar) D.J.
