PENN STATE RADIO NETWORK TWO'S A CROWD Breneman, left, and Hackenberg were in atten- dance for Penn State's game at Virginia Saturday. Recruits attend Virginia game Tim Owen RYAN SNYDER | B L U E WH I T E I L L U S T R A T E d Adam Breneman, Pennsylvania's top- ranked recruit who is verbally commit- ted to Penn State, hit the road this past weekend to watch his future quarter- back, Christian Hackenberg, lead Fork Union Military Academy to a 28-10 vic- tory over nearby Goochland (Va.) After a solid performance Friday night for Hackenberg, (6-for-11, 81 yards passing and three total touchdowns) the future Nittany Lions made the short trek west to Charlottesville on Saturday to watch Penn State take on Virginia. "It was a real good weekend," said Breneman, a four-star tight end from Cedar Cliff High School in Camp Hill, Pa. "I really enjoyed going to Chris- tian's game. He just has a great arm, all the tools you want in a quarterback. It's fun watching him in person and honestly, it's hard not to daydream a bit [about] what he and I could do for Penn State in a few years." "We hung out Friday night. Then I met a few of his friends. Then both of our families went to Virginia for the game on Saturday, which was another really good time. We actually met a bunch of Penn State fans who were all great to talk with. They just kept thanking both of us for everything we've done, sticking with the program." Breneman added that it wasn't only the Penn State fanbase that admired their commitment to the Nittany Lions. "We actually met a bunch of Virginia S E P T E M B E R fans, and they all had great things to say as well," he said. "Basically, all of them said that they have a lot of respect for our decision to stay with the school, and they think Penn State shouldn't have been punished so severely." While the game didn't turn out the way either had hoped – a 17-16 loss for Penn State – Breneman said he still sees positives in not only Bill O'Brien's offense, but also the current the team. "They're definitely getting better, [and] they played a lot better on Satur- day," he said. "It was a bummer that things didn't turn out the way we'd like, but that's football. Everything doesn't always go your way, and when it doesn't, it usually just makes you better. I still have a lot of faith in this program, this team. I think there's a lot to build on after these first two games. This team is better than that. I think they'll prove that down the road." Breneman headed back to Camp Hill after the game on Saturday, and on Sunday he took a moment to promote his charity Catch the Cure, which ben- efits ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. "I spent almost the entire day at a local midget football game selling T- shirts, bracelets, all types of different stuff," he said. "We raised more than $1,500 today, which I was real excited about. If anyone would like to donate, go to catch-the-cure.com." 1 2 , 2 0 1 2 9 WAEB.............790-AM.......
