JULY 2017 ■ 145 or more points (out of 96 opportunities). Her final tally of 1,375 points scored at NC State (1,593 in her career, including 218 at Arkansas) puts her 19th on the school's all-time scoring list. Moore noted that both Spencer and Wil- son were leaders by example — starting with their unexpected transition from re- serves to starters. "You preach all the time to players about staying ready, staying focused so when the opportunity comes you put yourself in position to take advantage of it," he said. "Staying locked in and knowing what's going on, preparing every day as if you're going to start — I think that epitomizes both these young ladies. "They're very professional in their prep- aration and doing the little things to be prepared to take advantage when the situ- ation arises." "We both tried to do what we had to, to get better for our team and for ourselves," Spencer said. "If that meant staying after practice and getting shots up, or coming in after class and shooting, that's what we'd do." "We're both gym rats," Wilson added. "I'd go for at least two hours every day, or if my knee was hurting [Wilson played part of her junior and all of her senior year with a torn meniscus], I'd ride the bike or do some kind of conditioning. I was always there [in the gym]. "Miah and I just wanted to do better than our opponents. People tell me I'm so serious, I don't laugh during games. But to me, if you're laughing you're not serious or focused. We're both competitors, and I think that's what made us stand out." Spencer, after failing to make the Phoe- nix Mercury's roster during a WNBA try- out in April, is headed overseas to play professionally in Poland this September. Wilson is still weighing options to play in Europe, and is hoping to latch on to a team in Israel. For Moore, who now has three players in four years that have earned Athlete of the Year honors (All-American center Markei- sha Gatling was the honoree in 2014), it's an added kudos to a program that's mov- ing toward his goal of a return to national prominence. "When you look around at the outstand- ing programs at NC State, and the indi- vidual young ladies who have excelled on the highest levels, it's a great compliment to Dom and Miah to be able to receive this award, considering the great competition and talent around them," he said. "It's a big honor because I have a lot of respect for the other women's coaches here and the athletes that play for them." ■ Dry Clean Your Carpets! commercial residential Since 1987 www.bmsdry.com Environmentally safe "green" system No soapy residue common to steam cleaning systems Fully bonded and insured Safe for children and pets • • • • No waiting on carpets to dry Proven system – millions of square feet cleaned in the Triangle since 1987 Wolfpack family owned and operated • • • Phone: 919-834-1990 • Fax: 919-834-1998 bms12@nc.rr.com – commercial jed.barbour@bmsdry.com – residential Ask about our Sure Step non-slip floor treatment! s o l u t i o n s f o r s t a b i l i z i n g t h e e a r t h www.verticalwalls.com 9 1 9 - 8 5 2 - 0 8 4 0 residential and commercial retaining walls Go Wolf Pack!
