160 ■ THE WOLFPACKER ■ FOOTBALL RECRUITING 14. JAMAL CURRIE-ELLIOTT, ATH Durham Hillside High Currie-Elliott is similar to former NCSU receiver Tobais Palmer — a smallish high school running back with speed. Currie-Elliott (5-11, 170 pounds) returned to Hillside after starting last fall at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., and ran 83 times for 684 yards and nine touchdowns, and caught three passes with a pair of scores in five games. At the Nike Opening Regional, Currie- Elliott was laser-timed at 4.74 seconds in the 40-yard dash and 4.27 seconds in the shuttle, and had a 35.4-inch vertical leap. He verbally committed to Oregon over Vir- ginia Tech and Tennessee in the spring. Rivals.com ranks Currie-Elliott as the No. 10 player in the state, and the No. 7 all- purpose back and No. 223 overall recruit nationally. 15. D.J. CROSSEN, CB Greensboro Dudley High It's a testament to Crossen's athleticism and talent that he had multiple ACC of- fers before ever playing a down of varsity football. After two years on powerful Dudley's junior varsity team, Crossen (6-1, 185 pounds) made an instant impact on the var- sity's team march to a state title this past season. Crossen originally ver- bally committed to UNC, but he decommitted in Jan- uary and is now pledged to Virginia Tech. Rivals ranks him as the No. 19 recruit in the state and the No. 38 cornerback in the country. 16. AVERY JONES, OL Havelock High Jones continues to fill out nicely on his 6-4, 270-pound frame and shows good footwork for a lineman. His high school coaches praised him for his flexibility and knee bend. He projects as an offensive guard at the college level. He verbally committed to UNC in Febru- ary. He is listed as the No. 22 player in the state and the No. 29 offensive guard nation- ally by Rivals.com. 17. JOSEPH BOLETEPELI, DE Wake Forest Heritage High Boletepeli is a high-upside recruit. He has a massive seven-foot wingspan on his 6-4, 245-pound frame, and at the Nike Opening Regional ran the 40-yard dash in 5.00 seconds and thus shuttle in 4.45 seconds. He also had an im- pressive 34.4-inch vertical leap. As a junior at Millbrook High in Raleigh, Boletepeli piled up 82 tackles and 17 stops for loss. He has trans- ferred to Heritage High for his senior sea- son because his family moved. Heritage is coached by former NCSU and NFL corner Dewayne Washington, and one of his team- mates will be Pack pledge Ricky Person. Boletepeli indicated in late June his top three schools were NC State, North Caro- lina and Wake Forest. He visited all three during that month. Rivals.com rates him as a three-star talent and the No. 31 player in the state. 18. TRENT PENNIX, ATH Raleigh Sanderson High Pennix is a versatile prospect that would prefer to play running back in college, but could be used as an H-back, line- backer or safety. Before his junior season, he camped at NC State and checked in at 6-1 ½ and 207 pounds, and was timed at 4.62 seconds in the 40 and 4.46 seconds in the shuttle. He also had a * DAILY TEAM COVERAGE EXPERT ANALYSIS RECRUITING SCOOP PROSPECT VIDEOS EXPERT MESSAGE BOARDS Go behind the scenes with exclusive coverage on the Wolfpack throughout the season.
