JULY 2017 ■ 161 ■ FOOTBALL RECRUITING standing broad jump of 9 feet, 3 ½ inches and a vertical leap of 32.4 inches. On the field, Pennix rushed 167 times for 1,215 yards and 12 touchdowns in 11 games last year. He also added 11 catches for 255 yards and two scores, and tallied 21 tackles and an interception on defense. Pennix also ran during the track season, where he sprinted a personal-best 11.2 sec- onds in the 100-meter dash. Rivals.com rates him as the No. 25 rising senior in the state and the No. 34 running back in the 2018 class. He verbally com- mitted to NC State over Virginia Tech in June. 19. ALAN TISDALE, LB Greensboro Page High Tisdale became a high-level prospect during his sophomore sea- son when he piled up 123 tackles while helping Page play for a state title. The 6-3, 210-pounder is argu- ably the best athlete among the linebacker corps in the state and uses that well in coverage, but will need to get stronger. Tisdale joined his close friends and fel- low Guilford County products Tre Turner and D.J. Crossen in verbally committing to play at Virginia Tech. Tisdale announced his decision July 1. Rivals.com rates Tisdale as a four-star prospect, the No. 13 player in the state and the No. 19 outside linebacker in the country. 20. DEVIN CARTER, WR Clayton High Carter is a physically imposing 6-4, 205-pound receiver who had great produc- tion as a junior at Clayton High, catching 78 passes for 1,167 yards and 15 touchdowns. He is also a solid athlete, posting a 10-0 standing broad jump and performing 17 reps at 185 pounds on the bench press at a Shrine Bowl Combine. At the Nike Opening Regional, he was laser-timed at 4.78 seconds in the 40 and 4.38 seconds in the shuttle, and also had a 32.4-inch verti- cal jump. Carter verbally committed to NC State in May over offers from Michigan State, Minnesota and Wake Forest, among others. Rivals.com rates him as a three-star pros- pect and the No. 36 player in the state. ■ For regular reports on NC State football recruiting plus videos of Wolfpack commitments and targets visit TheWolfpacker.com.
