Student-Athlete Of The Month Senior Rower Colleen Macke Studying for two labor-intensive majors can be a mental grind for any college student — especially one who is also a varsity athlete. But for Colleen Macke, a senior coxswain on the Michigan row- ing team, none of it feels like too much work. When she was in high school, Macke took a few German classes and enjoyed learning the language. She signed up for one as a freshman, and although she doesn't expect her Ger- man studies to factor into her future professional career, she stuck with the classes. "German is more of a hobby than anything, Macke earned Academic All-Big Ten honors last spring, and she will grad- uate from Michigan in 2013 with degrees in biol- ogy and German. PHOTO COURTESY U-M ATHLETIC MEDIA RELATIONS FALL BALL • Michigan fans looking to catch their first glimpse of the baseball team under Bakich's guidance can attend an after- noon game Oct. 9 against the Ontario Blue Jays or take in the intrasquad Maize and Blue World Series Oct. 18-19 and Oct. 21 (if necessary). Carol Hutchins' softball team, meanwhile, is traveling to Tra- verse City, Mich., for a four-team tournament Sept. 29-30. The Wolverines will meet Western Michigan, Ferris State and Central Michigan all on day one with brackets for day two to be deter- mined. U-M will also host the NPF All-Stars Oct. 4 and Eastern Michigan Oct. 10 as it wraps up its fall schedule. COUP FOR MICHIGAN • The nation's No 2 wrestler in the class of 2013, Adam Coon, has committed to Michigan and will wrestle instead of playing football in college, intermatwrestle.com reported.
