FOOTBALL RECRUITING matter what. The Wolverines could reshuffle the expected positions for some 2013 commits (for example, Detroit Cass Tech four-star Jourdan Lewis stars on offense as well as de- fense in high school) to accommodate the Florida standout. Favorites: Michigan, USC and Van- derbilt were atop McQuay's list early in the summer. The Trojans may not have any more room for McQuay, and the Wolverines' need for him may not be as strong as that of other schools. Florida State and Florida have also made a recent push for the in-state prospect. McQuay will visit for the North- western game Nov. 10. Green and Treadwell's visits will be in the rear- view mirror, and that should give both Michigan and McQuay some clarity about where they stand with each other. The talented youngster still likes Michigan, and Michigan still likes him, but is it enough to over- come some of his other favorites, such as Vanderbilt and Florida (to whom teammate and friend Alvin Bailey is committed)? The Scoop: Like Green, McQuay had his interest in Michigan piqued dur- ing a summer unofficial visit. Unlike Green, there's not quite the obvious need at his position. Still, Michigan would love to have him. LAQUON TREADWELL Wide Receiver Crete-Monee High School/Crete, Ill. Measurables: 6-3, 198 pounds … 4.5-second 40-yard dash … 245-pound bench press maxi- mum, 415-pound squat maximum. Rankings: Rated as a four-star pros- pect, the top wide receiver in the na- tion, the No. 23 overall player in the country and the No. 2 player in Illinois by Rivals.com. Accomplishments: Caught 75 passes for 1,400 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior … Named first-team all-state and Northwest Indiana Times Player of the Year … Member of Gridiron Kings runner-up Team Midwest … Selected to play in the 2013 Under Armour All- America Game … Participated in Ri- vals Five-Star Challenge 2012. Skill Breakdown: Treadwell is a true pro-style wide receiver that is a perfect fit for Michigan's new offense. He has the size to match up with defenders on the outside and the athleticism to make an impact from the slot. Treadwell's length and explosive leaping ability allow him to be an ef- fective deep threat. With the ball in his hands, he's an effective runner and can make the first player or two miss a tackle. Treadwell is also an outstanding blocker — something that wins over coaches very early in young players' careers. His combination of pass- catching and willingness to be a team player when he isn't seeing the ball come his way makes him a special player. Class Fit: Of the three main play- ers still high on Michigan's board, the need is biggest for Treadwell. Although Michigan has landed two other big outside wideouts, neither Columbus (Ohio) Marion-Franklin prospect Jaron Dukes nor Harper Woods (Mich.) Chandler Park Acad- emy prospect Csont'e York — both three stars — have Treadwell's athletic ability. Favorites: Treadwell has long fa- vored Michigan, but the Wolverines have slipped slightly into a larger top group along with Oklahoma, Okla- homa State, Ole Miss, Auburn and USC. Texas and Florida are showing new interest. The Scoop: Up to this point, if If Michigan's coaching staff is un- able to reel in any of its top three prospects on the board, it's possible that others will see increased U-M interest. That's particularly true at the wide receiver position (running back and cornerback are not as big a need). Westland (Mich.) John Glenn wide OTHERS TO WATCH receiver Da'Mario Jones is one player to watch, and so is Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University School wideout Dionte Taylor. Both are three-star prospects who have interest, but no offer, from Michigan. Should Treadwell come off the board, that offer status can change in a hurry. him — thanks to the presence of team- mate Anthony Standifer in Michigan's 2012 recruiting class. Treadwell made a commitment, it would surely have been for U-M. He built up an early vibe with the Wolver- ines — the first coaching staff to offer For regular reports on football recruiting, plus videos of all the top prospects in the nation and Michigan's commitments, visit TheWolverine.com. Standifer ended up signing with Ole Miss after options fell through for him at Michigan and Notre Dame. That has given the rebels a shot at Treadwell, along with some pass-heavy schools in the Big 12 (Oklahoma and Okla- homa State) and a few other high-pro- file programs around the country. Treadwell plans to visit nearly all of his favorites at least once. He will forgo an official trip to Michigan in favor of unofficial trips, so that he can use those officials on farther-away campuses. The longer he waits, the more likely it is Michigan's chances to land him wane. However, the Wol- verines will fight to be in it until the end. u The Wolverine Mobile Providing you the best coverage of Michigan Football, Basketball, Recruiting and Sports – on the go!
