and realized that I could throw the ball. I thought I would stick with that. I've always loved being the person to lead and guide other people, so I thought it really suited me. I've been working at it ever since, and obviously it's worked out pretty well. I love being a quarter- back. I love being a leader. You can be a leader at any position, but I think quar- terback is truly the o,ensive leader. I think I do that really well. All the other tradition with my family is just a bonus. It's not a de+ning aspect of it, but it is really cool to have football blood and stories from my grandpa and things like that. It's just a blessing to be in the spot that I am. BWI You've been touring parts of the country this summer on the camp cir- cuit. Can you recap the past couple months? Where you've been, who you've talked to, who has o,ered... LEVIS This past season I had good tape. The one thing that was always a little frustrating – but I always want to keep a positive aspect on everything – was that I wasn't getting a lot of serious looks from people. Obviously, I had been in contact with a lot [of college programs], but I kept hearing, "You've got to come out to camp," and stu, like that. I wanted to do that anyway to go out and show them, and to get coached by the coaches. One thing that helped me was being at the Nike Opening regionals. I performed really well athletically there. I got the Ratings MVP, whatever that was. That was one thing that kind of validated me as a recruit and as an athlete, because numbers don't lie. Once teams saw that, it got them more interested and more eager to get me on campus to throw. I had some schools that were most interested, and some of them came out to see me throw in the spring as well and wanted me to get on campus. I made a list of those schools, went out and did well at all those schools and received opportunities at all those schools. The +rst one – for- give me if I get the order wrong – was Iowa. That was the +rst camp I went out to and did well at. I received an o,er a couple days later. UNC was the next one. I received an o,er from camp there. I did- n't camp at Ole Miss, but they o,ered me a-er watching my +lm and watching some of my workout videos. They knew that I could play there, so they o,ered me. Florida State was the next camp that I went to. They o,ered me there. Then the next two were Syracuse and UConn. I both camped there and was o,ered there. Obviously, Penn State was the last one, and the last one for the rest of my high school career. Same thing happened. Went out there, did my thing. They of- fered me, and I made the decision to join them. BWI What's next for you, then? LEVIS The personal part of all this [re- cruiting] process is done for me, but one thing that Coach Franklin emphasized to all of us was that now our jobs are to get this class even better and get the best kids and best players [to commit]. ... In- stead of being the recruit-ee, I'm the re- cruiter, so I'm trying to get some of those kids to join the class and doing my best to sway opinions and help them with their decisions and trying to help let them see that Penn State is an excel- lent place that they can thrive at. Other than that, the most important thing is just focusing on my [Xavier] team. That has been the most important thing to me all along the way. To get the personal as- pect of recruiting over with, leaving me more time to focus on the team and get better as a team and just work toward a state championship for my high school team – that's what I'm really going to be focusing on this summer. ■ NAME POS HT WT RATING HOME SCHOOL Eyabi Anoma DE 6-5 225 ★★★★ Baltimore, Md.
