UNDER THE DOME Conference made plans for its future football and basketball sched- ules last week during a league meeting in Massachusetts. The re- cent addition of Notre Dame basketball and its increased partnership with the Irish football team played a major factor in who and how many teams each mem- ber will be playing in both sports going for- ward. "The addition of Notre The Atlantic Coast ACC LAYS OUT FUTURE SCHEDULES Dame gives us an op- portunity to reinforce a number of conference ri- valries in basketball and Olympic sports while also giving our schools greater flexibility in non-conference football scheduling," ACC com- missioner John Swofford said in a prepared state- ment. "With Pitt, Syra- cuse and Notre Dame joining us, it is an excit- ing time in our league and our schools have made decisions that po- sition us extremely well for the future." The three-team addi- tion brings the ACC's basketball roster to 15 teams, where it intends to stay. The conference decided that each team would have two rivals on their schedule for home-and-home series annually. Notre Dame's regulars will be Geor- gia Tech and Boston College. The rest of the 18-game slate will be filled out by a pair of additional home-and- home series selected on a rotating basis and one game against every other team in the confer- ence. In football, the confer- ence voted to stick with an eight-game confer- ence schedule rather than increasing to nine. That provides an extra non-conference game to appease teams like Flor- ida State and Clemson.
