ning
of the millennium, but that's largely
a result of good timing and
a paucity of games. In
2000, they pulled off a 12-
0 victory over a Penn State
team that was entering the
least-successful stretch of
the Paterno era. Last year,
they held off the Lions,
42-39, in week two, sev-
eral weeks before the of-
fense and defense hit their stride.
The Panthers needed overtime to de-
feat visiting Youngstown State, 28-21, on
Saturday, and now they're getting set to
take on the best Penn State team they've
faced since at least 1999. What's more,
they'll be facing it in Beaver Stadium, a
place they haven't been since that same
year, and where they haven't won since
1988.
Those factors will assure that the Lions
go into the game as decisive favorites.
They were decisive favorites vs. Akron,
too, and overconfidence did not seem to
be much of a problem.
