OCTOBER 2017 THE WOLVERINE 5   FROM OUR READERS he has the physical tools to be one of the best running backs in the country — he's also a 22- to 23-year-old grown man who needs to carry this offense on his back. This offense is at its best when Speight is limited to 20-25 throws, and it's set up with a strong running game — our iden- tity should be running Issac, which opens up the playbook for some major plays elsewhere. Also nice to have a reliable big leg in [redshirt freshman] Quinn Nordin. A top-five defense, a reliable big back and a very good field goal kicker is a winning recipe for tough road games. SOHOAFFAIR • Probably the most unexpected development of the season so far. If you asked me before the season who our best offensive player would be at this point I'd have gone through about 20 guesses before Ty. Harbaugh Hammer • Really moving well, for his size — cutting and speed. northvineinc • I had pretty much written him off. I would not have thought that he would be our best back at this point. His leap in maturity is pretty remarkable. Very happy for him. Tabularasa • I'm happy for Isaac as well. Ran hard when he needed to, showed burst when he needed to, was patient when he needed to be. Young man is growing with every opportunity it seems. Bravo Ty, Bravo! Sidenote: [Junior wideout] Grant Perry has hands like Velcro, that reviewed reception was pretty incredible. BiggBlue On junior safety Tyree Kinnel being named the Big Ten De- fensive Player of the Week after racking up a team-high nine tackles, including a sack, and an interception he returned for a touchdown in the 36-14 win over Cincinnati … • Totally deserving. Watched the game again. His decision mak- ing and angles were terrific. Great for him. Go Blue. umdoubleb • He puts himself in great position on almost every play. For me, he's the smartest defensive player on this team. mtj2317 On the Cincinnati game … • Karsch knocked it out of the park [in his postgame podcast on TheWolverine.com]. He got it right. Every team is trying to overcome something in the early stages. This is why coaches are paid truck loads of money. Let's see what Harbaugh can mold out of this. I still think he's the man for the job. blueconundrum • To me this was the perfect game. The team was likely sky high and that outing brought them down a bit. Now if we look mediocre again next week I will get worried. The Big D • … As usual when you break it down, it's never as bad as it looked live. … Without the careless turnovers, poor ball control and shanked punts, this game wouldn't (and shouldn't) have been close. Cincinnati did us a few favors though; they made us work deep into the second half when most of our guys probably weren't expecting to, and they hit us over the head with tunnel screens and countless picks and rubs against man coverage. We're going to see tons more of that stuff against teams that can actually beat us, so we'd better get to work on it sooner rather than later. ch13ba On men's soccer team … • Two wins this week, one over a conference foe and their best player [junior forward Francis] Atuahene makes his return. The men started by beating Dartmouth [Sept. 4] 1-0. Atuahene came off the bench for his first appearance of the season and ended up putting in the game-winning goal midway through the second half. Then on [Sept. 8], the men took on a Wisconsin team that was receiving votes for the top 25. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead early and held on for a 2-1 win. They might work their way into getting some top-25 votes this week. The team is scoring at a decent rate, and that will hope- fully pick up with Atuahene back in the lineup. But the real story is their almost completely new back line that has only allowed 3 goals in 5 games. They currently sit at 4-0-1 on the season, and making the [NCAA] Tournament seems very possible right now. Huge opportunity this week when they travel to Bloomington to take on a top-10 Indiana team. Going to be very tough to get the win, but with this good start they are basically playing with house money for that game. ImissMichigan Be Heard! Send your letters to: Wolverine Letters • P.O.
