MEN'S SOCCER 4-0-1 OVERALL, 1-0-0 BIG TEN On Aug. 16, junior forward Fran- cis Atuahene, sophomore forward Jack Hallahan and junior defender Marcello Borges were all named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List … Michigan's 10 freshmen on the roster marked the most of any team in pro- gram history … The Maize and Blue were picked to finish fifth in the an- nual Big Ten preseason coaches' poll … The Wolverines edged William & Mary 1-0 in their season opener Aug. 26 … Freshman forward Mo- hammed Zakyi scored the game's only goal in the 10th minute off a penalty kick … In a 1-1 double- overtime tie against Valparaiso Aug. 28, Hallahan recorded 11 shots, ty- ing him with Mauro Fuzetti in 2009 for the most shots in a single game in U-M history … In a 3-1 victory over Cleveland State Sept. 1, Hal- lahan recorded a goal and an assist in the same game for the first time in his career … Michigan improved its record to 3-0-1 with a 1-0 defeat of Dartmouth Sept. 4, marking its best start to a season since 2008, when it also began 3-0-1 … The Maize and Blue began conference play in victo- rious fashion, knocking off Wiscon- sin 2-1 Sept. 8 … A season-high 2,134 fans filled U-M Soccer Stadium to watch the game, the most since 2,225 showed up to watch a match against Michigan State in 2012. WOMEN'S SOCCER 3-1-3 OVERALL, 0-0-0 BIG TEN Senior defender Alyssa Dillon and fifth-year senior midfielder Ani Sarki- sian were voted team captains for the 2017 season … On Aug. 14, Sarkisian, junior forward Reilly Martin and red- shirt junior forward Taylor Timko were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List … Michigan was picked to finish fourth in the conference in the annual preseason coaches' poll … The Wolverines began the 2017 season in victorious fashion Aug. 18, blanking Washington 2-0 … In a 4-0 shutout of Idaho State Aug. 20, sophomore midfielder Brooke Cilley became the fourth player in school history to tally three assists in a sin- gle game … Two Wolverines earned conference honors after the first week of play, with Cilley being named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and rookie midfielder Sarah Strati- gakis being tabbed as the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week … With a 1-0 victory over Toledo Aug. 27, head coach Greg Ryan earned his 100th career win at Michigan and 285th as a Division I head coach … The Maize and Blue dropped their first game of the season 2-1 against No. 11 South Carolina Sept. 3 at the Notre Dame Invitational … Michigan hosted its second annual Military Apprecia- tion Day to honor all United States Armed Forces members and their families Sept. 10 against No. 17 Wake Forest, and played to a 0-0 double- overtime draw. VOLLEYBALL 7-2 OVERALL, 0-0 BIG TEN On Aug. 15, senior middle blocker Claire Kieffer-Wright was named to the 15-player preseason All-Big Ten team … Kieffer-Wright, senior op- posite hitter Katherine Mahlke and junior outside hitter Carly Skjodt were all nominated as team captains heading into the 2017 campaign … The Wolverines began their year with a three-set victory (25-18, 25-20, 25- 20) over Albany Aug. 25 at the Ga- len Center in Los Angeles … Skjodt recorded 11 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double of the season in a 3-1 loss to USC Aug. 25 … With three straight victories over Butler, New Hampshire and Green Bay from Sept. 1-2, the Wolverines swept the Michi- gan Invitational, finishing with a 3-0 record … Senior outside hitter Adeja Lambert recorded her first double- double of the season, racking up 12 kills and 10 digs in a 3-0 win over Idaho State Sept. 8 … Sophomore outside hitter Sydney Wetterstrom tallied a career-high 13 kills in a 3-1 victory over Ball State Sept. 10 … Sk- jodt (13 kills and 13 digs) and soph- omore setter MacKenzi Welsh (41 assists and 12 digs) each compiled double-doubles in the victory … The Wolverines were ranked No. 21 in the American Volleyball Coaches As- sociation poll Sept. 11. ❏ Sophomore Meg Dowthwaite started the scoring in Michigan's season-opening 3-2 win over No. 1 North Carolina, and led the squad with six goals and 16 points through six contests.
