C O M 14 Parsons planning unofficial visit this weekend Penn State isn't expected to host a large number of prospects for its final noncon- ference game against Georgia State on Sat- urday, but there are a handful of top recruits who have confirmed that they plan to attend. One of those players is arguably the staff's No. 1 remaining target in the Class of 2018: five-star defensive end Micah Parsons. A native of Harrisburg, Pa., Parsons used to be a member of the 2018 class, but he decided in April to reopen his recruit- ment. Since then, there's been no short- age of schools showing interest in the 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive end. Last weekend, Parsons used his first of- ficial visit of the season to attend Ohio State's game against Oklahoma. Despite the result, the nation's sixth-ranked overall prospect had good things to say about his weekend in Columbus. But there will be plenty of other visits in the months leading up to his commitment. In addition to this weekend's trip to Penn State, which will be an unofficial visit, Parsons has one additional official visit already set, which will be to Nebraska on the weekend of Oct. 7-8 for its game against Wisconsin. Many believe that the Cornhuskers and Buckeyes are PSU's top competitors, but schools such as Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and USC are among the dozens of other programs that are also trying to get him back on campus this season or in the months leading up to signing day. Parsons' recruitment is ex- pected to drag out until the end of the 2018 cycle. Class of 2019 wide receiver John Metchie is another notable prospect who is expected to be in State College this weekend. Back in July, Metchie, who stands 5-11, 184 pounds, earned an offer from head coach James Franklin following a standout performance at the staff's Un- derclassmen Showcase. The Nittany Lions are believed to be the early fa- vorites, so a solid visit this weekend could put the staff in an even better position moving forward. "I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the atmosphere around the stadium and also how the team plays," said Metchie, who attends Saint James High School in Hagerstown, Md. "That's mainly what I'm trying to see. I've heard a lot about Happy Valley and how the game day atmosphere is up there. It's not just the game, but be- fore the game and aBer the game. I know it's always a big event there, so I just want to take it all in." One other notable prospect who will be in attendance is Class of 2020 running back Chris Tyree. Like Metchie, Tyree earned an offer from the staff following an excellent performance at one of their Elite Prospect Camps in June. Despite the fact that he's still a sophomore, Tyree already holds nearly a dozen offers. His list in- cludes such programs as Florida State, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
