PSU The Nittany Lions lead the all-time series, 14- 12. MOST RECENT MEETING Saquon Barkley ran for 167 yards and Penn State thrashed the vis- iting Hawkeyes, 41-14, last No- vember. GOOD NEWS Iowa has won its past five Big Ten openers. The last time the Hawkeyes lost their conference opener was in 2011. Their oppo- nent? Penn State, which pulled out a 13-3 win at Beaver Stadium. BAD NEWS Ferentz compiled an impressive 8-3 record against Joe Paterno, but he hasn't had much luck against Paterno's successors, Bill O'Brien and James Franklin. Since 2012, Iowa is 0-2 against the Nit- tany Lions and has been outscored 79-28. DID YOU KNOW? Now in his 19th season with the Hawkeyes, Ferentz is the longest- tenured active coach in the Foot- ball Bowl Subdivision. He was hired on Dec. 2, 1998 to succeed Hayden Fry. Next on the list of longest-tenured coaches is Gary Patterson, whose first season at TCU was in 2001. Aside from Fer- entz, the only Big Ten coaches with more than 10 years at their current schools are Northwest- ern's Pat Fitzgerald and Michigan State's Mark Dantonio. M A T T   H E R B | M A T T @ B L U E W H I T E O N L I N E . C O M The last time a top-five opponent ventured into Kinnick Stadium after dark to face Iowa, things did not go as expected. The opponent was then- No. 2 Michigan, which was chasing a spot in the College Football Playoff but found itself in a low- scoring slugfest. The Hawkeyes were coming off a 41-14 loss at Penn State just a week earlier, but they weren't demoralized. If anything, they were more determined than ever to come up with a season-defining win. And that's just what they did, as Keith Duncan hit a 33-yard field goal on the final play of the game to give Iowa a 14-13 victory and send the crowd of 70,585 into hysterics.
