MEN'S ICE HOCKEY Nittany Lions name Robinson captain Senior James Robinson will serve as a captain for the second consecutive sea- son. The forward from Cochran, Alberta, will don the "C," while senior Erik Autio and junior Chase Berger will be alternates. "I just feel incredibly humbled," Robinson said. "You look around the room, and we have an outstanding number of guys who could be wearing letters this year. It's an honor and a privilege to be a captain for Penn State." A;er returning from an upper-body injury that held him out all of the 2015- 16 season, Robinson appeared in 26 games as a junior last year. Even though he had played just one shi; during his sophomore season, Robinson's peers voted him an alternate captain last year. In 2017-18, Robinson will become the :;h captain in Penn State history, as he succeeds 2016-17 captain David Good- win. Autio appeared in all but six games during his :rst three seasons, including all 39 games last season. The Finnish blue-liner scored three goals while adding 15 assists last year for 18 points and led the nation in plus/minus with a plus-33 rating in 2016-17. Berger hasn't missed a game since stepping foot on campus in the fall of 2015. He has appeared in all 77 games, scoring 26 goals while adding 36 assists for 62 points. His 36 points last season ranked fourth on the team. Both Autio and Berger will be wearing letters for the :rst time when the Nit- tany Lions open their season Oct. 6 at Clarkson. STUDENT TICKETS GO FAST Penn State students shattered their previous record by purchasing their entire sea- son-ticket allotment in only 2 minutes, 12 seconds on Sept. 14. The Roar Zone is now sold out for the fifth consecutive season. The previous record of three minutes was set in September 2014 during the :rst men's hockey online sale. The fol- lowing year, the tickets sold out in :ve minutes. "The Roar Zone continues to show why they are the best student section in college hockey," coach Guy Gadowsky said. "Selling out their ticket allotment in just over two minutes is unbelievable. We can't wait to play in front of them this season." A 13 game season-ticket package went on sale for students at 7 a.m., and the sale was closed just a;er 7:02 a.m. ■ FIELD HOCKEY Delaware hands PSU first loss of season Second-ranked Penn State dropped its :rst match of the season on Sept. 17, falling to defending national champion Delaware, 2-0, in Lancaster, Pa. The Nittany Lions (7-1) held the ad- vantage in penalty corners, 7-5, as well as total shots, 17-11, but the sixth- ranked Blue Hens had 11 saves. "I thought that Delaware was very im- pressive today," Penn State coach Char- lene Morett-Curtiss said. "We didn't take care of the opportunities we had in the circle. I thought that our kids gave what they had in their tanks, but it just seemed that we didn't have enough in the tank to start. I'm proud of their ef- fort, and I think it was a really exciting :eld hockey game." Delaware's Lisa Giezeman put one past Jenny Rizzo to take a 1-0 lead six min- utes into the game, rolling from right to le; before :ring into the back of the cage. The Blue Hens scored again in the second half to build a 2-0 lead that they would not relinquish. MEN'S SOCCER Third-ranked Terps shut out Penn State Penn State was unable to come away with a win in the Fifth Annual Mack Brady Match, falling, 2-0, to No. 3 Maryland on Sept. 17 at Jeffrey Field. The Nittany Lions held Maryland scoreless in the first half before Sabast- ian Elney tallied what would turn out to be the winning goal in the 50th minute of play on a cross in front of the net. The Lions (1-3-2, 0-2-0) played 18 minutes with only 10 players after get- ting a red card in the second half. ■ ROBINSON N O T E B O O K
