PLAYER OF THE GAME Do we even have to say his name? Saquon Barkley totaled a Penn State-record 358 all- purpose yards. He repeatedly made something out of nothing, and when he did find running room, he made the most of it. All told, it was one of the more impressive nights of his spectacu- lar career. PLAY OF THE GAMEFacing a turning point in their season, the Nittany Lions showed up when it mattered most. Trailing 19-14 with 1:42 left to play, quarterback Trace McSorley engineered a 12-play, 80-yard touchdown drive, capped by a fourth-and-goal comple- tion to Juwan Johnson as time expired. The touchdown clinched a 21-19 win for the Nittany Lions. BEST PASSMcSorley's pass to John- son went over the outstretched finger- tips of an Iowa defender and landed in Johnson's hands. A game-winner can't get much better than that. Honorable mention: McSorley remained patient in the pocket while standing in his own end zone and delivered a strike to Dae- Sean Hamilton downfield for a crucial 23-yard gain. WORST PASSIowa quarterback Nate Stanley had wideout Matt VandeBerg alone in the middle of field on the Hawkeyes' first possession of the evening. The ball sailed over his re- ceivers' head, though, and eventually led to an Iowa punt, swinging field po- sition right back to the Nittany Lions. Stanley missed VandeBerg again to open the second quarter with an easy over-the-middle attempt. BEST RUN Barkley put on a show Sat- urday night in Iowa City. His third- quarter carry for 44 yards may have been his best on a night filled with ab- surdly good runs. Bouncing the ball outside, Barkley stopped on a dime along the sideline, breaking it back in to collect another 20 yards. BEST CATCHIn an otherwise com- pletely lifeless first half for the Hawkeyes, receiver Nick Easley took advantage of a late Iowa defensive in- terception with a 21-yard touchdown catch. The single play nearly doubled Iowa's offensive yardage, and gave the hosts an unexpected 7-5 lead.
