Culpepper, who resides in Tampa, Fla., earned an offer from head coach James Franklin in January and went on to make unofficial visits in April and July. He com- mitted on July 14, just two days aCer his second visit, and has held firm ever since. However, there was one thing that he had yet to see: a game inside Beaver Stadium. "It was awesome," Culpepper said. "The student section was absolutely wild, and the energy in the stadium was like nowhere else. I sat with the 2018 commits and my buddy, Will Putnam, who is a 2019 four- star offensive tackle from my school. "Of course, I was working on him to come to PSU. He had an awesome time. He had a blast. He was thoroughly impressed." Culpepper also caught up with Franklin, defensive line coach Sean Spencer and other members of the staff. "It was mainly just small talk," he said. "We were just catching up, seeing how everyone was doing. It was great to see them again. They're the greatest coaches in the country, no doubt." Both of Culpepper's previous trips to Penn State were individual unofficial visits with just his family and the coaching staff. Because of that, arguably the biggest take- away from Saturday was the fact that he was finally able to meet some of his future teammates for the first time. "They're all likeminded and great guys," he said. "I hung out with Justin Shorter and also Will Levis and Charlie Katshir. It was great to finally meet them. We've been tex- ting for the longest time now, so it was awesome to put faces to names and really get to know them." Through four games this season, Culpep- per has totaled 29 tackles, including four tackles for loss and two sacks. On offense, he's pulled in nine receptions for 73 yards and two touchdowns. The four-star prospect is ranked No. 21 overall at strongside defensive end, al- though he's expected to play defensive tackle for the Nittany Lions. He's also No. 54 overall in Florida. –RYAN SNYDER R E C R U I T I N G Culpepper enjoys first PSU game day
