NEWS & NOTES FILL 'ER UP boost attendance by cutting Nittany Lion Club donation levels. PSU is looking to PennStateLive PSU adjusts seating plan FOOTBALL STEP program revised in effort to encourage attendance As he has worked to keep Penn State competitive in the face of stiff NCAA sanctions, Bill O'Brien has fre- quently touted the program's ongoing popularity, particularly its ability to put fans in seats, as a reason for re- cruits to keep the Nittany Lions in mind. "We have got one of the biggest sta- diums in the country," O'Brien said recently. "People are talking about how we only had 95,000 at a game the other day. Name me a school in the country that had 95,000 at their game. There are a handful, I'm sure. Michigan if they played at home, I guess. I'm just saying this place is a very special place." The university's athletic administra- tion is looking to keep as many of those seats occupied as possible dur- ing the next few years. So after draw- ing a 17-year-low 93,680 fans for its Sept. 22 home game against Temple, Penn State announced that it will re- visit the Seat Transfer Equity Pro- gram beginning with the 2013 sea- son. Penn State and the Nittany Lion Club revealed on Oct. 3 that they are planning to reduce the pricing struc- ture for more than 11,500 Beaver Stadium seats. Sections EGU, ECU, WGU and WCU, which formerly re- quired a $400 donation, will require a lowered $200 donation next sea- son. Seats in sections EFU, EDU, WFU and WDU, which used to re- quire $600, will require a $400 con- tribution. Current NLC members are eligible to renew their memberships with the understanding that seat se- lection will not occur until March, and new members are encouraged to apply.
