M . , O C T . 2 1 | T V A B C MICHIGAN FACTS COACH Jim Harbaugh (Michigan, '87) COACH'S RECORD 25-7, 15-5 Big Ten, in three seasons at Michigan; career record: 83-34 2017 RECORD 5-1, 2-1 Big Ten RECORD VS. PSU The Wolver- ines lead the all-time series, 13-7. MOST RECENT MEETING Michigan took a 28-0 lead into halftime and never looked back in a 49-10 victory over Penn State last September in both teams' Big Ten opener. The Wolverines to- taled 329 yards and six touch- downs on the ground against an injury-ravaged PSU defense. GOOD NEWS All six of Michigan's opponents so far this season have all been held to season-lows in total yardage by the Wolverines. Michigan is al- lowing only 223.8 yards per game, the lowest total in the Football Bowl Subdivision. BAD NEWS Michigan was flagged 16 times for 141 yards in its 27-20 overtime vic- tory over Indiana last weekend. The 16 penalties were the most by the Wolverines since 1981. DID YOU KNOW? James Franklin and Michigan de- fensive coordinator Don Brown served together on Maryland's staff in 2009 and '10. Franklin was the Terps' offensive coordi- nator, while Brown was their de- fensive coordinator. This week, the Nittany Lions' head coach de- scribed Brown as an expert strategist who knows how to load up the box without giving up big plays in the passing game. "He's getting the best of both worlds," Franklin said. M A T T   H E R B | M A T T @ B L U E W H I T E O N L I N E . C O M You can understand why Penn State might not want to dwell on last year's game against Michigan. The Nittany Lions spotted the Wolverines a four-touchdown lead in the first half and never caught up, eventually losing 49-10. Things got so bad that, trailing 28-0 in the third quarter, Penn State settled for a field goal on fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line, just to get that goose egg off the scoreboard. But at his news conference Monday, Jim Harbaugh didn't want to talk much about last year's game, either. Asked about his brief history against Penn State – two games, two wins – he quickly demurred, shifting the focus to Saturday's much-anticipated primetime rematch at Beaver Sta- dium. 1 O C T O B E R 1 8 , 2 0 1 7 B L U E W H I T E O N L I N E . C O M Since taking over Michigan's program in 2015, Harbaugh has gone 2-0 against Penn State. On Satur- day, the Nittany Lions will be looking for their first victory over the Wolverines since 2013, when they won in quadruple overtime, 43- 40. Photo by Bryan Fuller/ MGoBlog
