FAN FORUM out of his job, and I don't think he ever recovered from that slight. Some say he got too powerful, and the good administrators at Notre Dame didn't want the university to be known as a football factory. I totally agree with their thinking, but not necessarily with their decision. FROM THE WEBSITE This question was posed: Who is your favorite 2006 I refused because Leahy wasn't recognized on it. Knute Rockne put the university on the map, but Leahy kept it there through the 1940s and half of the 1950s. Every year I buy "The Shirt," but in Spring Hill, Fla. player to watch on this year's team? It was no surprise among the several dozen responses Jack Joyce that senior All-American linebacker Manti Te'o was the most popular choice — but junior nose guard Louis Nix III was not far behind, with sophomore defensive end Stephon Tuitt coming in third. Here were a couple of the comments: Kking: I'm trying to appreciate everything he is doing, since this is his last year. It is so easy to take this rare bird for granted, then, they are gone. Felt the same way about Ross Browner, Ken MacAfee, Alan Pinkett, Tony Rice, Tim Brown, Rocket, Golden Tate, Floyd, etc. … If the turnaround of this program is for real this time, I commands at least a double team, sometimes triple team. Nix is the unsung MVP of the defense. Think about the career Ray Lewis has had in the NFL. He's at his best with a dominant nose guard like Tony Siragusa or Haloti Ngata. Manti is able to get a lot done because of the things Nix does. He can plug the gaps faster and drop into coverage to defend the pass because the front three (or four) com- mand attention. Nix occupies at least two blockers most of the snaps. think Manti choosing ND over U$C will be a watershed mo- ment. The fact that he actually lived up to (and exceeded) the hype is just a bonus. Jiggafini19: Louis Nix cannot be blocked one on one, and Junior nose guard Louis Nix III has been an unsung MVP on the Irish defense, com- manding double teams on nearly every down and creating opportunites for the second level of the defense.
