Junior quarterback Tommy Rees did not begin any of his two and a half seasons at Notre Dame as the starter. Rees ended up starting the last four games as a freshman in 2010, and this season he had a one-series start versus Miami Oct. 6. Ever so quietly, though, this season he moved into fifth place in UNDER THE DOME ✦ GIMME FIVE Notre Dame history for most career pass completions, supplanting Rick Mirer (1989-92), a three-year full-time starter and No. 2 NFL pick in 1993. To show you how much football has changed over the last few decades, consider that Rees has twice as many career completions already than 1988 national title quarterback Tony Rice did from 1987-89 (185, including bowl games). Rees established himself as the nation's best football fireman through the first half of the 2012 season by coming off the bench to set up the game-winning field goal against Purdue (Sept. 8), reliev- ing starter Everett Golson in the 13-6 win against Michigan (Sept. 22), and replacing the injured Golson in the fourth quarter versus Stanford with the Irish trailing 13-10 before winning in overtime 20-13. Quarterback (Years) 1. Brady Quinn (2003-06) 2. Jimmy Clausen (2007-09) 695 3. Ron Powlus (1994-97) 4. Steve Beuerlein (1983-86) 473 5.
