The team shot a 24-over-par score during the three-day tournament. The host Sooners won the tournament, taking advantage of the familiar terrain to shoot a five-under-par total. He shot back-to-back one-under 69s to pull into a three-way tie behind overall winner Kyle Perry from Indiana University. Kansas City, Mo. The Irish shut out Maine 1-0 in their season opener and beat Nebraska-Omaha 3-2 the following night. Four different players scored goals, and junior Steven Summerhays stopped 50 of the 52 shots he faced during the weekend. Summerhays won the CCHA Goaltender of the Week award for his performance at the tournament. HOCKEY (2-0) The No. 9 Fighting Irish started their season by winning the Ice Breaker Tournament Oct. 12-13 in .500 in conference play in mid-October. The Irish beat Seton Hall 6-1 on the road Oct. 13 and moved into the upper half of the Big East's stacked Blue Division. Junior Harrison Shipp scored three goals in the win. Senior Ryan Finley, junior Alex Priede and freshman Patrick Hodan all added one each. Postseason play begins Oct. 31. MEN'S SOCCER (11-3, 3-2 BIG EAST) The second-largest offensive output of the season so far put Notre Dame back on the sunny side of WOMEN'S SOCCER (11-4-2, 7-1-1 BIG EAST) Georgetown snapped Notre Dame's eight-game unbeaten streak with a 2-0 win Oct. 12, but the Irish bounced back two days later against Villanova to lock up a bye in the first round of the Big East Cham- pionship. Freshman Anna Maria Gilbertson scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over the Wildcats. Freshman Elyse Hight, starting in goal for the first time in a month, made three saves to earn her second career shutout. Notre Dame will play Syracuse in the conference quarterfinals Oct. 28. VOLLEYBALL (13-6, 6-1 BIG EAST) Notre Dame is heating up in the month of October. The Irish won seven of eight matches from Sept. 16- Oct. 12, and took 12 of 13 sets during a four-match winning streak from Sept. 30-Oct. 12. Most recently, they swept DePaul in three closely contested sets Oct. 12. Sophomores Toni Alugbue and Jeni Houser each had 13 kills in the victory. — Dan Murphy
