PSU The Buckeyes lead the all-time series, 18-14. MOST RECENT MEETING Mar- cus Allen blocked a late Ohio State field goal attempt, and Grant Haley returned the ball 60 yards for the winning touchdown in Penn State's 24-21 upset of the second-ranked Buckeyes last Oc- tober at Beaver Stadium. The Nit- tany Lions won the game despite being outgained by Ohio State, 413 yards to 276. GOOD NEWS With former Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson now serving as their offensive coordinator, the Buck- eyes are first in the Big Ten and third in the Football Bowl Subdi- vision in total offense with an av- erage of 577.3 yards per game. BAD NEWS Ohio State is the Big Ten's most penalized team. Through seven games, the Buckeyes have been flagged 52 times for an average of 74.4 yards per game. DID YOU KNOW? The Penn State-Ohio State game has usually been played at mid- season, but in two of the next four years, it will take place in late No- vember. The 2019 game will be Nov. 23, and the 2021 game will be Nov. 20. Both games will be in Columbus. Next year's game will take place Sept. 29 and will be Penn State's Big Ten home opener. Whatever it is, Ohio State has gotten it, at least as far as Penn State is concerned. The last time the Nittany Lions were able to follow up a victory over the Buckeyes with another win was in 1980. They had stifled Ohio State at the Horseshoe two years earlier, 19-0, and when the two teams were chosen to play in the Fiesta Bowl, that earlier game was still fresh in the minds of many Buckeye players. As Ohio State's coach at the time, Earle Bruce, ex- plained to reporters in the days leading up to the bowl, "A lot of them played in the 1978 game, so that may be in our favor." It was not.
