The defen- sive line is part of the equation, but the Demon Deacons' safeties are also providing support. The defensive backfield is anchored by safeties Jes- sie Bates III and Cameron Glenn, who combined for 99 tackles and three in- terceptions through seven contests. "The strength of the defense is the defensive line and the safeties of Cameron Glenn and Jessie Bates III," Johnston said. "Winning the battle at the line of scrimmage is extremely important and it takes some of the pressure off the linebackers, who have had an up-and-down year. "Fortunately, Glenn and Bates III Senior Duke Ejiofor — who had 29 total stops, 13 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks through seven games — and the Demon Deacons defensive line will try to cre- ate havoc for a talented Notre Dame offensive line.
