BKB PREVIEW 12-13 come to games … and the fan base here is just crazy," she said. "Also the history of the program and the job opportunities available coming from NC State were important be- cause I know sports won't last forever. I'm majoring in sports management, and I think the foundation I have with a degree from here will help a lot." Goodwin-Coleman's debut season was im- pressive, especially considering the fact she supplanted White at the point for the final 11 games of the 2010-11 season. With her prowess as a passer and outside scorer established, Goodwin-Coleman has been working on two areas she feels will be critical to her further development this season. "Being able to pull up and hit that mid- range jumper, or float a shot over that 6-5 girl in the middle on a drive," she explained. "Teams who've seen me probably expect me to either take the three-pointer or kick it out if I try to drive. Being able to pull up and score off the dribble will be a big help. "I also feel defending in the open floor is a weak part of my game. I've been working on that, as well." Harper also feels the addition of Len'Nique Brown, a redshirt sophomore who transferred from USC in 2011 and is now eligible af- ter spending last season on the Pack's scout team, will provide much-needed relief for Goodwin-Coleman, who averaged 27 min- utes a game last season, with three contests in which she played all but four minutes. "Myisha is not a 40-minute-a-game player," Harper said. "We have to minimize those times when she struggled last year, and having Len'Nique will allow us to do that. She also gives us individual speed we haven't had before and, despite her size [5-5], the ability to stop people because of her athleti- cism and quickness. You'll see them both on the floor this season, too." Goodwin-Coleman welcomes the extra help, even if it means cutting down her play- ing time. "I'm not big on minutes or who's playing," she said. "If Len'Nique plays 39 minutes, and I play one, and we win, it won't even cross my mind. Just knowing I have someone else I can play with, who can come in and keep up the pace, is great. "I want to be the kind of player that op- ponents have to focus on, because that will mean my teammates will be open. And I want to be a go-to player in the crunch. I want to be consistent, and I want to do whatever it takes to help get us to the NCAA Tournament." But fundamentally, NC State's "Little Gen- eral" has one ultimate goal, like the role mod- els of her youth, All-Americans and WNBA stars Kara Lawson and Sue Bird. "I just want us to win," she said. ■ NOVEMBER 2012 ■ 71 AMEDEO'S Italian Restaurant • Tailgate Specials • Catering • Private Parties Call us today! 919-851-0473
