BKB PREVIEW 12-13 Last year, sophomore Krystal Barrett was fifth on the team in minutes played (26.5 per game) and was the top scorer off the bench (6.2 points a contest). PHOTO BY ROB BRADLEY "Do you want to be sprinting up and down the floor with a big kid like that? She's ca- pable of doing that, but she's going to need her touches in the paint, too. We do want to put pressure on defenses, but if there's nothing there, we have to be able to make the decision to pull it out, recompose, run our offense and get a good shot. "We're pounding into their heads — move the ball around. We don't need a shot in the first five seconds of a possession; if we get a kickout and you're wide open, then take it … but we'll also get a good shot if we run our offense. But that's coming with this group's maturity and experience." Graduation claimed starting guard Emili Tasler, the team's top outside defender and third-leading three-point scorer, as well as backups Kim Durham and Paige Woodard. Erica Donovan, the No. 6 scorer last season (4.9 points per game) and one of the team's most accurate shooters transferred over the summer to Bowling Green State in Ohio. Her arrival gives Harper optimal depth of at least two players at all three perimeter positions. "She's a winner — she won two state championships and a national club cham- pionship — and a very strong defender," Harper said. "There's no real weakness in her game, and her personality is just what we need. She'll do anything you ask her to do." While Eli supplied this year's injection of new blood, the Pack's outside game will once again be led by the returning duo of senior Marissa Kastanek and junior Myisha Goodwin-Coleman. A three-year starter and a classic "leader by example," Kastanek, the Pack's only senior, will take on the additional role of de facto team leader. And the three-time ACC honoree and last year's conference scholar- athlete in basketball is more than happy to spell out her No. 1 goal this season.
