14 DECEMBER 2017 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED UNDER THE DOME UNDER THE DOME Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Cam Morrison — Hockey The sophomore from Aurora, Ontario, scored the lone goal in No. 4 Notre Dame's 1‑0 win over Rensselaer Poly‑ technic Institute Nov. 18. After playing to a 0‑0 tie through regulation, he rebounded a shot from sophomore defenseman Andrew Peeke 13 seconds into overtime and put it in the back of the net to give the Irish the victory. Through 13 games, Morrison had three goals and three assists for six points. Andrew Oglevie — Hockey The junior from Fullerton, Calif., tallied two assists in No. 4 Notre Dame's 4‑1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic In‑ stitute Nov. 17. With the two‑assist performance, he recorded his fourth multi‑point game of the young 2017 season and the 13th of his Notre Dame career. Oglevie had five goals and six assists for a total of 11 points through 13 contests. Lindsay Stone — Swimming and Diving The freshman from Pitts‑ ford, N.Y., set an Irish re‑ cord when she recorded a time of 16:14.00 in the 1,650 freestyle in the fi‑ nals of the Ohio State Fall Invite Nov. 17‑19 in Co‑ lumbus, Ohio. The time put Stone in sixth place overall in the event and helped lead the Irish women to a third‑place showing out of 28 participat‑ ing teams. Jemma Yeadon — Volleyball The sophomore from Mercer Island, Wash., continued her stel‑ lar season for Notre Dame, posting 17 kills, seven blocks and seven digs in a 3‑2 win over North Caro‑ lina State Nov. 19. The 17 kills were a team high versus the Wolfpack, and Yeadon's seven blocks tied a career high. With two matches to go in the regular season, Yeadon led the Irish with 408 kills. TOP OF THE CLASS ✦ GIMME FIVE When junior Brandon Wimbush barreled in from two yards out with eight seconds left until halftime to knot the score at 10 against Navy Nov. 18, it was his 14th rushing touchdown of the season and extended his single‑season school record for quarterbacks. The previous mark of 10 was set by his predecessor DeShone Kizer in 2015. It also left Wimbush one short — with two games remaining — of scoring the most touch‑ downs in one season under eighth‑year head coach Brian Kelly. The most touchdowns by an individual under Kelly in a single season are the 15 compiled by sophomore wide receiver Will Fuller in 2014. Wimbush's 14 rushing touchdowns also rep‑ resent the most by an Irish player since current Notre Dame running backs coach Autry Denson had 15 during the regular season of his 1998 senior year, plus three more in the 35‑28 Gator Bowl loss to Georgia Tech for a total of 18. When including bowl games for all players — which didn't begin until 2002 — here are the five highest single‑season touchdown totals by a Fighting Irish player. Most Single-Season Touchdowns By An Irish Player Rk. Player (Year) TD 1. Jerome Bettis (1991) 23 2. Allen Pinkett (1983) 20 3. Allen Pinkett (1984) 19 4t. Autry Denson (1998) 18 4t. Favorite Place to Eat in South Bend: "Five Guys." Favorite Movie: "'The Lion King.'" Favorite Music: "I like gospel music." Favorite Musician: "Kirk Franklin." Favorite TV Show: "The Bible." Favorite Pro Sports Team: " The Oakland Raiders." Favorite Part About Playing For Notre Dame: "Coming from Hawai'i, with the crowd sizes, you'd only fill half of the stadium. But coming here, getting to play, even in away games, just the opportunity to play in front of thousands of people where the crowd is just yelling for you when you make a play, and just knowing that the crowd is cheering for you and your team, it's just really exciting to me." Who's The Best Player You've Lined Up Across From: "That's a tough one. I would say the best offensive line we've faced is Georgia. From our perspective, the right tackle there." CHARTING THE IRISH IRISH BOAST ONE OF NATION'S MOST EFFICIENT OFFENSES Through 11 games this season, Notre Dame ranked sixth nationally in rushing offense (290.5 yards per game), 19th in scoring offense (36.7 points per game) and 25th in total offense (458.5 yards per contest). Notre Dame had not fared as well throwing the ball (108th with 168.1 yards per game), but still boasted one the most efficient offenses in the country per FootballOutsiders.com. The Irish ranked No. 8 nationally in the website's OFEI rankings (offensive efficiency adjusted for the strength of opponent defenses faced) with a 3.29 rating. Only Oklahoma (4.07), Ohio State (3.72), Okla‑ homa State (3.66), Georgia (3.49), Alabama (3.42), Army (3.39) and Arizona (3.39) ranked ahead of Notre Dame. If the rankings were to stay the same following the final two weeks of the regular season, the No. 8 finish would be the second highest for Notre Dame during the Brian Kelly era and just the second top‑20 finish in his eight seasons at the helm. For the 10‑3 2015 season, Notre Dame had its highest OFEI ranking over the past six campaigns with a No. 6 finish and 1.20 rating. This season's current mark would by far be the highest rating the team has produced offensively under Kelly. Moving? Let us know! Call 1-800-421-7751 Rk.
