Dear Cavalier Friends, We are in one of the busiest times of our fund-raising year and I want to share both our enthusiasm and high- lights from the first four months. With the flurry of events, our staff has had the opportunity to talk with many of you already. I am so encouraged by the excitement we are seeing from our fans and donors. This is a great time to say THANK YOU for being loyal to Virginia athletics and for all that you do to support our student-ath- letes. Please take a moment to glance at the messages below as some of our student-athletes have taken time to express their appre- ciation for your support. Our 2012 Annual Campaign goal is to raise $14,525,000 from 10,000 donors. As of April 30, we have: 6,142 donors 649 new donors $11,491,245 pledged As a donor, you know how important your gift is to the athletics program. We hope you will share the Founda- tion's mission with at least one friend and encourage their participation. This is a great time to be part of Virginia athletics! "As a student-athlete at this great institution, I am very aware of the fact that so much of what I do is made possible by the very HAPPENINGS AT THE VAF ... JANUARY-APRIL 2012 EVENTS ◆ The VAF Spring Social Tour is underway and our staff is travelling around the country with many athlet- ics representatives including head and assistant coaches Mike London, Tony Bennett, Shawn Moore and Anthony Poindexter; athletics director Craig Littlepage; former student-athletes Herman Moore, Chris Canty and Chris Long; and current student-athletes representing many of our teams (see Rachel Clark's Roanoke Social speech in this issue). ◆ The 1952 and 1972 men's lacrosse national cham- pionship teams returned on March 24 to reunite with teammates, celebrate their respective championships and receive a well-deserved, on-field recognition during the Johns Hopkins versus Virginia game. ◆ The 1972 baseball ACC championship team reunion was held on April 14, highlighted by a passionate and excited return of 20 former teammates. ◆ The VAF welcomed 100 former student-athletes and fans to meet new director of track and field/cross country, Brian Fetzer, during the ACC Track and Field Champion- ships on April 21. It was a perfect day to showcase the newly renovated track and bring together track and field enthusiasts. ◆ Student-athletes were recognized for their accom- plishments at the All-Sports Banquet held on May 2. MVPs were announced and the VAF Endowed Schol- arship recipients for the 2012-13 academic year were named (these will be listed in the next issue). THANK-A-THONS On a weekly basis throughout the spring months, teams of student-athletes take over the VAF offices to spend an evening placing phones calls or writing notes to thank donors for their support and for the opportuni- ties made possible by their gifts to the Virginia Athletics Foundation.
