www.BLUEANDGOLD.com JANUARY 2018 11 UNDER THE DOME 3-3 Record under head coach Brian Kelly in bowl games. The victories came against Miami (33-17) in the 2010 Sun Bowl, Rutgers (29-16) in the 2013 Pinstripe Bowl and No. 22 LSU (31-28) in the 2014 Music City Bowl. The latter is the only time since 1994 the Irish have defeated a ranked team in the postseason, and the first time since 1992 it defeated a foe ranked higher. The losses came against No. 25 Florida State (18-14) in the 2011 Champs Sports Bowl, No. 2 Alabama (42-14) in the BCS National Champion- ship Game following the 2012 campaign, and No. 7 Ohio State (44-28) in the 2016 Fiesta Bowl. 4 Consecutive weeks from Nov. 14 to Dec. 5 that Notre Dame sopho- more goaltender CALE MORRIS was named the Big Ten's First Star of the Week. Previously, no one had ever accomplished the feat even three straight. Entering January, he boasts a 15-1-0 record, a .954 save percentage (first in the country), a 1.53 goals-against average (second nationally) and four shutouts (second). 13 Games in a row won by the 16-4-1 and No. 3-ranked Notre Dame hockey team, with a 10-0 start in the Big Ten, the best ever by a team in the league. The streak is the longest by the program since winning 14 consecutive games from Dec. 11, 1987 to Feb. 13, 1988, when it was not in a Division I conference. 17-18 Notre Dame's all-time bowl record (.486 winning percentage) while going through two extremes. First, at the end of the 1993 season, Notre Dame's 13-6 bowl record was the best bowl winning per- centage (.684) in the NCAA by a team that had played at least 15 postseason outings. In 11 of those 19 bowls, the opponent was either unbeaten and/or ranked No. 1, and the Irish were 8-3 in such contests. All but two of those 13 wins came in a major bowl. From 1994-2006, however, Notre Dame lost an NCAA-record nine consecutive bowl games before defeating Hawai'i 49-21 in the 2008 Hawai'i Bowl. 20 Passes defended by sophomore cornerback Julian Love this season (17 broken up and three intercepted), tying him for second nation- ally at the conclusion of the regular season, behind only Iowa junior Joshua Jackson's 25. The 20 broke the single-season Notre Dame record of 17 shared by freshman Luther Bradley for the 1973 national champs (11 passes broken up and six interceptions) and sophomore Clarence Ellis in 1969 (13 passes broken up and four interceptions), with both of them achieving the feat in only the 10 regular-season games played back then. 38 Notre Dame junior guard Marina Mabrey's team-high 21 points in an 80-71 loss at No. 1 UConn Dec. 3 made her the 38th player in program history to reach the 1,000 career points milestone. Classmate Arike Ogunbowale became the 37th in this year's opener. 393 Career victories by Notre Dame men's basketball coach Richard "Digger" Phelps in his 20 seasons from 1971-91. After a 92-68 victory at Delaware Dec. 9, current 18th-year head coach Mike Brey was at 390 and on course to break the mark either this month or in early January. After the Delaware win, Brey's career mark of 390-189 (.674 winning percentage) resembled Phelps' 393-197 (.666). 9,800 R o u n d - trip miles traveled by the No. 2-ranked Notre Dame women's basket- ball from Nov. 14 to Dec. 3 while matching the school- record seven straight road games played away from Purcell Pavilion. When Notre Dame took on No. 1 UConn in Hartford Dec. 3, it marked their fourth straight top-25 opponent, and fifth overall, all on the road.
