The Eagles — coming off a 28-14 loss to Wake Forest, which Notre Dame hosts Nov. 17 — will miss out on a bowl game for the second straight season. Spaziani has seen his win total drop every year from eight in his first season in 2009. He is 22-26 over those four seasons and prob- ably won't get a fifth. "You always have long-range plans," Spaziani said Sunday. "The man that doesn't plan for his future has no future, right? But the immediate thing is the next game. That's the most important thing about the future and that's the beauty of football. That's what we're trying to do, take care of the next week. "Winning takes care of everything, you know?" Beyond Notre Dame, which is still bat- Through nine games, fifth-year senior linebacker Nick Clancy led the Eagles in both tackles (107) and passes broken up (eight). Rettig threw for nearly 2,000 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, and has completed 197 of 349 passing attempts (56.4 percent) for 2,561 yards with 16 touchdowns and eight interceptions this year. Defense — Fifth‑year senior middle linebacker Nick Clancy played in nine games as a redshirt junior before injuries wiped out the rest of his 2011 season. The 6‑3, 232‑pounder climbed the depth chart this fall and paces the Eagles with 107 tackles and eight passes broken up.
