Barkley has few peers in Nittany Lion history
Is Saquon Barkley the greatest running
back in Penn State history?
To even ask the question is to imply
that there's a set of firmly established
criteria by which to judge such things.
That's obviously not the case. Some
might say that Curt Warner is Penn
State's greatest running back because, in
addition to racking up 3,398 yards, he
helped win a national championship.
Some might say Ki-Jana Carter is the
best because he was the most electrify-
ing player on an undefeated team. Some
might say that John Cappelletti is the
best because he won a
Heisman Trophy. Some
might say that Lenny
Moore is the best because
he's in the Pro Football
Hall of Fame. And all of
these arguments leave out
Evan Royster. A four-year starter from
2007-10, Royster never seems to come
up in this conversation even though he
rushed for more yards (3,932) than any
player in school history.
Barkley joined the pantheon of all-
time greats by amassing
3,843 rushing yards and a
school-record 5,538 all-
purpose yards in only three
seasons at Penn State and
creating a highlight reel
full of runs, catches and
