Rattray also led the 6eld hockey team to 6ve consecutive NCAA tourna- ments from 1982-1986 and two NCAA semi6nal appearances. As the leader of the women's lacrosse team, Rattray amassed a 143-19-3 career record in her 12 years as head coach. The Nittany Lions won three consecutive USWLA national championships from 1978-80 under Rattray, compiling a com- bined 45-1-3 record over those three sea- sons. She also led Penn State to two AIAW national tournaments and three NCAA tournaments, including NCAA semi6nal appearances in 1983 and '85. Rattray retired from coaching in June 1987 in order to devote all her time to teaching a:er serving as an assistant pro- fessor in the College of Health, Physical Education and Recreation for 10 years while coaching. ■ Former Penn State o8ensive lineman Adam Gress was found dead in his home on Dec. 21 a:er an accidental fall. A Nit- tany Lion letterman in 2012 and '13, Gress was one week away from his 27th birthday when he died in Dormont, just outside of Pittsburgh. Gress was one of the players who helped hold Penn State's football team together in the wake of the Sandusky scandal and the subse- quent NCAA sanctions. He had signed with the Lions out of West Mif- 7in High in 2009 and went on to start three games at o8ensive tackle as a junior in 2012. Gress became a full-time starter the following year, helping protect fresh- man quarterback Christian Hackenberg. Nicknamed "Sasquatch," Gress was known for his 6-foot-6, 320-pound physique, his long blond hair and his good humor. "Not only was he a great teammate but an awesome friend," tweeted Stephon Morris. "Adam was in the 2009 recruiting class and was a big component in helping restore the roar in 2012." During his time at Penn State, Gress served as an o9cer in the Nittany Lions' chapter of Upli:ing Athletes. A:er graduating in 2014, he signed with the New York Giants as an un- dra:ed free agent but was cut before the season began. A native of western Penn- sylvania, he had been working as a con- struction site manager in the Pittsburgh area.
