uva recruiting DEVON HALL SET TO HELP FILL CRUCIAL POINT GUARD VOID BY JACEY ZEMBAL Virginia senior point guard commit Devon Hall is willing to do whatever his team needs to win a game. The 6-5, 210-pounder from Vir- ginia Beach (Va.) Cape Henry Col- legiate School gave his verbal com- mitment to Virginia July 1, and he was poised to sign with the Cavaliers during the Nov. 14-21 fall signing period. He'll bring his winning men- tality to Charlottesville next fall after moving up into the class of 2013 last summer. "I'm a pass-first point guard, and ACC, which is the best conference in the country." Bennett was a standout at Wisconsin-Green Bay, where he played for his father, Dick Bennett, and was in the NBA for three years with the Charlotte Hornets. "That was a big advantage be- cause he can teach. He's been through it and knows more than I do," Hall said. "He can teach me what I need to learn and improve on." Rivals.com ranks Hall the as the I'm a playmaker," said Hall, who is also a talented defender due to his length and athleticism. "I can score two points and get 12 dimes [assists], and as long as we win the game I'm fine. I could care less about how much I score. I love to make plays, on defense and offense." Hall, who officially visited Charlottesville Oct. 19-21, selected Virginia over offers from Mary- land, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Iowa State, Memphis, Miami, Oregon State, Oregon, Missouri and Winthrop. "I know the coaches will have my back 100 per- cent, bad or good," said Hall, who is 17. "I also know it will be a lot easier for my family to come up. With my brother there as well, it's a one-trip thing. Rivals.com recruiting analyst Eric Bossi has been watching Hall in ac- tion with the Boo Williams traveling team for a few years. "Hall is a big point guard, steady and doesn't make mistakes or do anything negative out there," Bossi said. "He's not a lightning-quick ACC point guard, but is more of a grinder and system guy. The Virginia staff will love him because he doesn't make mistakes and will make that ball pop in the offense in terms of changing sides of the court." Hall helped lead Cape Henry Collegiate School to its first Virginia Independent School state title game, while averaging 15 points, eight rebounds and seven assists per contest. The Cavaliers will have a young nucleus of play- ers growing up together, with Hall and Encino (Ca- lif.) Crespi High point guard commit London Per- rantes and South Carolina power forward transfer Anthony Gill hitting the floor next year. The current roster has five first-years and three second-years.
