cavalier profile ALEX DOMIJAN Third-Year • Tennis Alex Domijan has staked his claim to being one of the best to ever play for head coach Brian Boland's Virginia tennis program, which is saying something consider- ing all those who have achieved great success with the Cavaliers. This fall, the 6-7 third-year from Wesley Chapel, Fla., accomplished something only two other players have ever done before — he won the singles title at the ITA All-American Championships for a second time. Domijan's first title came at the event in 2010, and after missing last year's tournament due to an injury, he claimed another title in early October in Tulsa with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Ohio State's Peter Kobelt. He joined K.J. Hippensteel of Stanford and Al Parker of Georgia as the only players to win the tournament twice. "This tournament isn't exactly what we train for, jan said. "Regardless, it's a great honor and it's a very unique tournament. You play a lot of tennis in a short period of time and it becomes very physical. "When I came back last spring, With Domijan's win, UVa became the only school to capture the championship three consecutive years (cur- rent second-year Mitchell Frank took home the title last season while Domijan sat out). Domijan contemplated turning pro before and earlier in I wasn't playing very well and I hadn't played in a while. Getting healthy, and being back at full strength, really helped me this year. " his Virginia career, but sticking around Charlottesville has proven to be the right decision. The third-year entered the 2012-13 season as the eighth-ranked player in the country, and he is trying to lead his team to an NCAA championship after it was bounced from the tournament by USC the past four seasons. "Its tough," Domijan said of losing to the Trojans. "Right now, for me, it's to do all of this for my team and not for myself. I know we are all hungry for a title, and we are go- ing to work as hard as anybody to try to get one. — Brandon Lloyd ◆ Photo by Matt Riley/courtesy "
