A 10th, Slaughter, will apply for a sixth season. PERSONNEL NOTES • Sophomore wide receiver DaVaris Daniels had surgery performed on him Sunday morning to repair a broken left clavicle suffered in the second half at Boston College. He will miss the final two regular-season games, but is pro- jected to be back for the January bowl game. He is fourth on the team in recep- tions (25) and third in receiving yardage (375). Junior wide receiver TJ Jones, who is tied with senior tight end Tyler Eifert for most receptions (34), will be utilized at Daniels spot, as will fifth-year senior John Goodman (four catches for 77 yards), junior Danny Smith (six catches for 37 yards) and freshman speedster Chris Brown (one catch for 50 yards, which set up the go-ahead score at Oklahoma). Goodman caught his second touchdown pass of the season in Daniels' place last Saturday. According to head coach Brian Kelly, Goodman has been plagued by a variety of injuries this year, most notably his back, thus limiting his playing time. "John's given us everything that he has in his senior year," Kelly said. "He's been a great teammate. He'll get a chance now to play a little bit more." • Freshman cornerback KeiVarae Rus- sell passed all the necessary post-concus- sion tests Monday and is cleared to prac- tice with Notre Dame this week. Russell missed much of the second half of Satur- day's game against Boston College due to a head injury. • Starting nose guard Louis Nix was ejected in the fourth quarter Saturday night for a post-whistle altercation with some Boston College offensive linemen. If a player is ejected in the second half of a game, he sometimes has to sit out the first half of the next game. However, Kelly said that because Nix's ousting was for an unsportsmanlike pen- alty and not for throwing a punch, he won't have to miss any playing time this week against Wake Forest. • Kelly said he has not had any dis- cussions with defensive coordinator Bob Diaco — a possible front-runner for this year's Frank Broyles Award, presented annually to the nation's top assistant coach — about possible head coach openings in the future. Kelly said he would give Diaco the opportunity to make an upward move if the situation presented itself, but Sophomore wide receiver DaVaris Daniels, who ranks fourth on the team in receptions (25) and third in receiv- ing yardage (375), suffered a broken left clavicle at Boston College and will miss the final two regular-season games, but is projected to be back for the January bowl game. [HOTO BY BILL PANZICA it hasn't been a topic of conversation this year while the meticulous Diaco keeps his eyes on only one target. "You know Bob — he doesn't want to ✦ PAGE 15 talk about it," Kelly said. "He didn't come to Notre Dame to be the head coach some- where else. He came to Notre Dame to help win a national championship." ✦
