Nittany Lions outlast the Hoosiers on a record-breaking afternoon HISTORY REWRITE LORI SHONTZ | B L U E WH I T E C O N T R I B U T O R Everyone wants to know: Was there a mo- ment? A pass? A decision? A flicker of recognition? Something – anything – foreshadowing that Matt McGloin would enter the final game of his career as Penn State's all-time leader in 200-yard passing games, 300-yard passing games, single-season passing yardage and ca- reer touchdowns? Because that's where he sits after throwing for four touchdowns and a whopping 395 yards in Saturday's 45-22 victory over Indiana. The win raised the Nittany Lions' record to 7-4 and assured them of a winning conference record – an achievement that plenty of prog- nosticators thought would elude them. "I think when you look at players, it's based on their body of work over a specific time," quarterbacks coach Charlie Fisher said. "I think you measure quarterbacks by their con- sistency, and Matt – he's been awful consistent every Saturday we've lined up and played." Consistent? That just raises more questions. Until this season, consistent was never an ad- jective associated with McGloin, a guy who could direct a fourth-quarter comeback in one N O V E M B E R 1 7 , 2 0 1 2 1 B L U E W H I T E O N L I N E . C O M John Beale THE GAME AT A GLANCE GOOD NEWS Matt Mc- Gloin had the best afternoon of a stun- ning senior season, throwing for nearly 400 yards. BAD NEWS This one's a dispiritingly easy call. Michael Mauti's knee injury is very likely to bring an end to one of the most valiant careers in school history. THE TAKEAWAY The Nittany Lions once again put the ham- mer down on an in- ferior opponent. Can they beat an upper-echelon team (albeit one with four losses)? We'll find out next week when Wisconsin comes to town.
