EIGHT TO ATTEND COMBINE Eight Penn State football players – running back Saquon Barkley, safeties Marcus Allen and Troy Apke, cornerbacks Christian Campbell and Grant Haley, linebacker Jason Cabinda, tight end Mike Gesicki and wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton – will participate in the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. The eight invitees are the most for Penn State since 2009 when Deon But- ler, Gerald Cadogan, Maurice Evans, Aaron Maybin, Jordan Norwood, Lydell Sargeant, A.Q. Shipley and Derrick Williams participated. The eight Nit- tany Lions in the 2018 Combine are the seventh-most in Football Bowl Subdivi- sion and are second among Big Ten schools. The 2018 NFL Scouting Combine is set for Feb. 27-March 5 at Lucas Oil Sta- dium in Indianapolis. The NFL Network and NFL.com will have coverage of the Scouting Combine. The 2018 NFL Draft is set for April 26-28 in Arlington, Texas. The on-field workout schedule is as follows: running backs, offensive line- men, kickers and special teams players Friday, March 2; quarterbacks, wide re- ceivers and tight ends Saturday, March 3; defensive linemen and linebackers Sunday, March 4; and defensive backs Monday, March 5. BRADLEY TO STEELERS Former Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley is returning to his western Pennsylvania roots. The Pittsburgh Steelers an- nounced Bradley as their new defensive backs coach on Feb. 8, filling a vacancy that opened up after Carnell Lake's res- ignation. A Johnstown, Pa., native, Bradley spent 37 years on Penn State's staff. He was defensive coordinator from 2000- 2011 and was the team's interim head coach prior to the arrival of a new staff in January 2012. After leaving University Park, he spent one season as an assistant at West Virginia and three at UCLA as defensive coordinator. ■ tian ministry endeavors, raising his own funds while also coaching football and working in administration at three small colleges. In 2006, one of Steve's former Penn State teammates, Brennan Gaertner, who was a Lutheran minister, formed a Chris- tian ministry called White Fields Founda- tion and recruited Leo as one of several partners. About three years ago, Leo and four other partners left White Fields and created Locking Arms Men under Leo's leadership. "It was a very positive part- ing," Leo said. "White Fields was involved in different areas of ministry and I wanted to lead an organization where I wanted to focus solely on men's ministry and create my own board of directors and advisory board." The ministry includes weekly prayer meetings throughout the greater Pitts- burgh area, monthly special events with featured speakers such as breakfasts, lunches and dinners, and ongoing activi- ties that serve the poor in the Pittsburgh region and Dominican Republic. "About 90 to 95 percent of our funding is from individuals," Leo said. "A very small per- cent comes from family foundations. Anyone interested in helping us can con- tact us through our website, www.lockingarmsmen.org." Stefen serves on the Locking Arms Men advisory board and participates in various projects when he can. Steve has less in- volvement because he still lives in Cali- fornia. One other former Penn State football player serves on the 10-man advisory board, Lydell Sargeant, a defensive back from 2005-08 who is now an official NFL player agent. Jon Kolb and Tunch Ilkin, who played on Super Bowl-winning teams with the Pittsburgh Steelers, also are on the advisory board. The next time the board meets, they can publicly wel- come Stefen to the Super Bowl Ring Club. Leo will be smiling. ■ N F L N O T E B O O K A Penn State football book by Lou Prato with a forward by Adam Taliaferro The Remarkable Journey of the 2012 Nittany Lions Price: $14.95 plus shipping Published by Triumph Books (soft cover) Autographed copies available via louprato@comcast.net or through Lou Prato & Associates at 814-954-5171 Autographed copies of Lou's book We Are Penn State: The Remarkable Journey of the 2012 Nittany Lions are still available via louprato@comcast.net or through Lou Prato & Associates at 814-954-5171.
