It'll be an arena. It'll be a hockey
rink. It'll be a cafe. It'll be a commu- nity center. It'll be state of the art. Whatever you want to call it, or what- ever you plan on using it for, the Peg- ula Ice Arena is on pace to be com- pleted by Sept. 5, 2013. In fact, Steve Laurila, senior project manager for Mortenson Construction, said work on the arena "might be just a little bit ahead of schedule," and
should certainly be finished before the inaugural Big Ten ice hockey sea- son next year. While Penn State's new men's and
women's ice hockey teams will be the primary tenants of the new arena, which sits across from the Bryce Jor- dan Center on University Drive, school officials are already working to schedule nonhockey events. Joe Battista, Penn State's associate
athletic director for ice arena and hockey development, said he hopes the facility will also play host to Dis- ney on Ice, figure skating tourna- ments and even commencement cere- monies. It's uncertain what the grand-opening event will be, and al- though Battista said Penn State has been approached about hosting a game between the Pittsburgh Pen- guins and Philadelphia Flyers, the
